Change to admin panel settings help!
Hi,
our forum has always been secure and all new membership requests have had to be approved by admin. However, this was recently changed on our admin panel so that users could activate their own accounts. We would like to know how this was possible? Have the settings changed/defaulted? Were they accidentally toggled to "users can activate"? And if so, is it possible to see when this occurred?
We have quite an upset member who has had things seen on our forum that she thought were private as a result.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Change to admin panel settings help!
Hello @Wallflower,
Nothing that we are aware could have caused this change. If something was forced to change i believe others would have noticed that too.
You can see the moderation logs here:
Admin Panel > General > Forum > Security > scroll down to "Administration" tab.
Is there and other Admin to your forum?

Sometime ago when i had many days to visit my forum ...i think 20-30 days... I saw the activation had also changed from users can activate to only admin ..i thought then that this was just a security reset cause i was (admin) not active for so long.. And iam the only admin there
i have the forum many years this happened only once

Re: Change to admin panel settings help!
Hi.
I've been back through 2+ years of moderating/administration panel log. Each time settings are changed it's in the log. Except we haven't ever changed it in recent years and it must definitely wasn't like this before. So somehow it's reverted or changed without our knowledge, which isn't really acceptable. Especially given that it has caused a user of ours problems as a result.

Re: Change to admin panel settings help!
This sounds like someone changed it. The only time it changes automatically is when your forum is not activate, and it changes to administrator approval.

But nobody changed it. It's not in the log!

Re: Change to admin panel settings help!
Hello,
Thank you for reporting this problem. After verification, it turns out, in fact it comes from our end.
In fact, it is a mistake in the execution of a script intended to update the value of these fields on some forums with spams that caused this problem !
This had the side effect the passage of the option to enable users to "administrator" or "Automatic" to "members" on some forums!
Unfortunately it is impossible for us to recover the initial value of this field. Nevertheless the forum administrator is free to change this option again depending on what he wants.
Sorry for the mistake and the inconvenience !
