import data from another forumotion forum
Hi There, my question is a simple one - can the database of a phpbb2 forum be moved into a phpbb3 forum (both are forumotion), same founder in both cases (i am in the process of transferring the phpbb2 forum to me and I am the founder of the phpbb3 forum). It is a long story but the founder of the phpbb2 forum has decided to walk away after we had gone to the trouble of setting up a new one. About half of our users have already registered on the newer phpbb3 forum so the concern is what steps we may have to take to merge or replace the database.
Does the forum structure have to be identical in every way?
Will there be an issue with duplicate users?
Cheers
Barry

Hello friend...
If you talk about file for database of phpBB forums in your version 3.x, you don't export the database of Forumotion forums for your system phpBB... BUT, you can export your database of your forum phpBB to Forumotion. You can see this topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t133904-topic
Now, if you only change your version (of phpBB3 for phpBB2 as you say) on Forumotion, you can see this topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t138414-topic No is necessary change your Database for exchange your version. The system does for you alone.
See you.

Re: import data from another forumotion forum
Thanks...
Maybe I was not clear enough in my description of my enquiry.
The scenario is
2 forumotion forums - lets say A and B - A is phpBB2, B is phpBB3, same founder in both and they are small forums with approx 50 users
How to copy the database of A into B?
What problems there may be as a small number of users are using both with same usernames and the structure of both is similar but not exactly the same. It is a long story how this situation arose but I wont go into that.
cheers

In fact, what you want then is not possible to do. Sorry.

Hello @bazza2210
Indeed, as they told you this cannot be possible because you would need the Database from both forums: one to import the data and the other to export it.
So you would manually have to do everything on your own (creating the same topics etc).
Anyway and having read this:
I believe there's a better solution If the founder decided to walk away and leave/abandon the forum, there's a chance you can recover his account (the founder account) and use it yourself! To know how, please read the following tutorial:

Hello,
You can also change the phpbb2 forum to phpbb3 as well if you want, you don't have to make a new forum.
