Description of problem
Hello, For some odd reason A post that has been going all of a sudden split into 2 posts. Meaning about 5 pages went into a new post and the main post wound up locked. I don't know how to add those 5 page posts back to the original post . I have tried to merge them but that doesn't seem right. I don't understand any of the merge, split, move. There nothing to where if you needed to move 1 single post to another post.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Dyane

Hello!
If you are confused on the mod tools that you have access to for your forum just check out the link below! This will tell you about the merge tool and such to merge 2 of the topics back together.

Re: Moving posts
Thank you Jadster but that doesn't help. I need to put back part of 5 pages of posts to it's original main post.
and none of those do that. Moving is just to move to a new topic not an already posts.
Which I am surprised there isn't anything on moving single posts to put into another post.
Re: Moving posts
Hello,
I think I know why. Forumotion forums have a limit to how many posts a single topic can have, the limit is around a thousand (could be off by a hundred or so). When the limit is reached, the system will auto split the topic down to exactly 998 posts. The system will also lock the original thread and put a link to the new topic in the last post of the thread.
Unfortunatelly there is nothing you can do about this, the limit can not be changed and if you attempt to merge the topics back together, the system will split it again.
I find the best thing to do is to edit the first post of the new topic, saying its a continuation thread and then also link to the original thread.
I know this may not be the solution you were hoping for, but it's about the best one (aside from splitting the topic yourself before the limit is reached).
I apologize for any inconvience this may cause you or your users.

hello

Messages in a subject: 990 messages (once the limit reached, the subject is locked and splitted)
Re: Moving posts
It takes the system some time to split the topic so you might see a topic with 1,000 posts before it is split into 2 topics.
Tip: If this happens again, you should look to see if there are 2 or more topics with the same topic title.

Re: Moving posts
Well you guys are all correct. lol It did split into 2 and locked the one.
So being I couldn't have a header post to the one. I just made a new post
and deleted the other 2.
Looking through my forum and there are a couple of game posts that are beyond
a thousand the one 1069 so I locked it before it split. lol
Definitely will have to keep that in mind.
But I do still have the question about moving a single post.
example; I run a game Mon - Sun, now sometimes I'm late on starting a new
week or a member is from another country and the time zone is different. And
members will post their Monday after Sunday post.
Now when I have the new one up to start the week. I want to move
their Monday post over to the new post. Is their any way of being
able to do that?
Thank you for your help

Re: Moving posts
yes from your moderation tools choose split
this way you can split a topic in two, either by selecting the posts individually or by splitting from a selected post
