Will changing the skin also change other things on a forum?
I am not sure if I'm asking in the right place, but a lot here is about skins.
I have seen other skins I like but wonder if it changes anything else I've already done on my forum. I don't wish to change coding or many things I've already added.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,
Each style has its own CSS codes, images and colors ... Therefore, if you install any of them, the current one of your forum will be modified by the new one.
Some even require template editing so that they can be properly viewed, so you must be completely sure that you want to install it in your forum.
Some tend to adapt the skin to their needs (Other colors, images ...), but you would need to know well about codes and some graphic design or find someone who can help you.

So, not really just for an average user to switch out and use easily?

They are free to use! You can search by color, forum version, language,etc..
Some people even create skins that are not published on the page, but you must make sure that the format is .bbtheme to be able to import it into your forum.
The only skin that you cannot use or copy is that of the official support forum (The one here), since doing so can eliminate your forum.

The main things that change with a theme change would be css, sometimes templates, and images for stuff like the navbar, who is online, etc.
If you are worried about losing stuff, I always recommend backing up any important images, codes (CSS, templates, and Javascript) that way you can manually restore them if something goes astray during the change over.

Re: Will changing the skin also change other things on a forum?
One major change that could occur is the changing of your forum's version. If you have a phpBB 3 theme then install a punBB theme, your forum would be changed to a piunBB forum. Also another issue that you might enter encounter is with coding. Your customized CSS will be erased, some JavaScripts will not work for all versions, each version has their own CSS selectors, tc.

I wouldn't mind minor changes, but if it changes things in my templates that I have already gotten help here to add, I would have some problems. I like the looks of some skins... I just don't want to lose everything I have added or needed changed..YoshiGM wrote:They are free to use! You can search by color, forum version, language,etc..

What if I am sticking with the same version and just changing the skin?
Re: Will changing the skin also change other things on a forum?
In the future, please use the multi-quote feature so you will not be double posting.
Your customized CSS will be erased. I can not remember about the templates. I would say yes they are changed.

I've never used multi-quote and have no idea what it does. Sorry.SLGray wrote:In the future, please use the multi-quote feature so you will not be double posting.

Alright. I will consider this "solved"
