External Domain SSL
Technical Details
Forum version : #PunBB
Position : Founder
Concerned browser(s) : Google Chrome
Screenshot of problem : https://prnt.sc/hcryiNzSLDZi
Who the problem concerns : All members
Forum link : ( link is hidden, you must reply to see )
Description of problem
When adding a custom external domain, the SSL certificate is giving an error. My domain provider does not have any active SSL to cause this conflict, I think it is actually from the Forumotion platform.Last edited by Ganso on December 12th 2023, 12:43 pm; edited 3 times in total

Re: External Domain SSL
hello
it may take some time for the system to embed your customized domain name (CNAME) into the SSL certificate forumotion provides
Usually, it's done automatically....however in some cases with domains purchased externally it can take longer.

Hello Ganso.
This depends of links of images (src) and also CSS style links. You can choose the "Force HTTPS on forum" option if necessary. You can give URL of forum please? This topic in Portuguese can help: https://ajuda.forumeiros.com/t107876-faq-guia-ativacao-do-certificado-ssl-https-de-seu-forum (or in English: https://help.forumotion.com/t150650-ssl-certificate-guide-for-a-success-forum-migration-to-https#1038838)
Thanks by share the URL of forum for better to meet.
Regards,
Shek

Re: External Domain SSL
Dear @Ganso
when did the problem appear? (since a couple days ago, since 24 hours, less than 24 hours, ...)
also, did the problem appear after a manual action? (linked domain, etc..)
just to understand if the warning popped out from nowhere or if something happened before it
please note that if you have just added the forum via CNAME during the last 48 hours you should consider what @skouliki already mentioned:

So if this is the case, it is just a matter of waiting patiently until the system installs everything correctly

Re: External Domain SSL
The problem is that if you access it via "https://www.punbb-community.com/" it works perfectly but if you access it via "https://punbb-community.com/" the famous ssl error appears.
Using cloudflare, I already tried to automatically redirect it to "www." if they access it without using it but it is not activating me correctly and it is a problem with forumotion.
I have advanced support because my Cloudflare account is business because I have other businesses there and I spoke to them directly and they said that everything is ok on this side..

I never put the cname with "www" so it should work:

What I did was add the CNAME with and without the "www" but I even removed the cname from "www" to test just with the normal one, see:

I'm sorry, I was testing to see if I could place it without the www and now neither with the www nor without it

Re: External Domain SSL
Hello @Ganso,
Please note that we only host subdomains for an external domain, namely:
something.myforum.com
forum.myforum.com
www.myforum.com
But not the root domain: myforum.com (punbb-community.com in your case )
So you have to make a 301 redirection from punbb-community.com to www.punbb-community.com with your registrar.
Best regards

A possibility to make it in another way? I am sorry, but no, impossible.

Re: External Domain SSL
In reality, it is possible to resolve this without any 301 redirect.
I managed to solve it, thank you
