Topic Vanished, backup not working
Hello, my friend and I are having an issue on our forum where a single topic vanished and after a few days of troubleshooting, we are still unable to recover what we lost. We also noticed that even though I am an admin it seems I no longer have Admin privileges' in the forum.
We have tried doing a full backup with no luck. On the day this occurred it gave the option to do a full backup from 01/15/2024 with only lost content without changing current content Any insight as to why the backup won't work or if there is anything else we can do will be helpful. Thank you

@Loria Can you provide a test account, or open the registration to new users?
Your forum is closed to guests I am afraid and we cannot check anything at the moment

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Thank you!
Upon checking the topic you cannot find (https://cityofkampfer.forumotion.com/t689-) I get this error:
this means that the topic exist, but I don't have the permissions to read it.
If the topic wouldn't exist/is cancelled, the error would be this one:
So I am afraid you simply don't have the permission to read topics in the forum where that specific topic is located

It seems it is okay now, as you managed to access the ACP and change the setting to allow me registeringWe also noticed that even though I am an admin it seems I no longer have Admin privileges' in the forum.
Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Okay, so it's still lingering around somewhere so that's a good sign!
There are only two of us in the forum and we both receive that message when visiting the link. Is there a way to change the permissions?

Can you by chance put me as admin temporarily?
So I can check it personally and understand it better.
After that of course, remove me from administrators

@Loria No I don't, you gave me the rank "admin", but you need to put me in the administrator group instead

Thank you! now I can see it as admin
It is strange, because you are right that you cannot see the topic https://cityofkampfer.forumotion.com/t689- even as admin - which is strange from the error that you see
Do you remember in what section the topic was placed?

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
I think it may be a synchronization issue, or something that went wrong doing the restore from backup
I think this because the error you receive is different from the one of a deleted topic, and an administrator should never see that kind of warning "Only X can read this topic".
Also, that type of warning usually says "Sorry, but only special users can read topics in this forum." or "Sorry, but only administrators can read topics in this forum." - and in this case there is the status keyword missing in the warning - which makes me think of an unexpected bug occurring.
I'd suggest you to wait for @Luzz or an administrator to escalate this to a technician, because I think it is a minor bug that occurred on your forum, and there is nothing you can do on your side at the moment
I am sorry, but I cannot do anything else at the moment, we need to wait for them

It is okay! I greatly appreciate your help with this! Do I wait for them to respond to me here?

I tried but was having login issues with servimg. It does give me the option to use those tools now without asking for a login so I will be sure to do that next time. Thank you

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Hello @Loria
What I can see in your Security logs (and you can see the same thing in your Administration Pannel > General > Forum > Security (Moderation)) , is that this topic was moved by administrator Sarah on 22 January to a forum... but we cannot see which forum So I thougt that maybe the forum was deleted, but there was no deletion of any forum on 22 Jan before your backups.
Did you choose the option "Insert only the lost content without changing the current content" when you restored the forum ? Maybe your administrator remembers in which forum did she move the topic ?
In any case it's not a normal behavior, this is sure, but I try to find some more information to show it to our technicians. Thank you!

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Thank you for the information. We did choose “Insert only the lost content without changing the current content" when trying the backup. Sarah isn’t sure where it was moved as it happened completely by mistake.

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
I would also like to add that Sarah was never given the option as to where she would like to move it, almost like it moved on it’s own somehow?

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
When she moved it, there should have been a drop-down menu to where to sent it. She might not have remembered to so that step.

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Would it have given the options to only move it within our forum? Although I am set to admin I cannot see or access the administrator panel at this time.

Are you part of this group, or at least can you see the page?
https://cityofkampfer.forumotion.com/g1-
In any case a colleague wrote me this, maybe it is your case:
Try to be removed from the admin group (g1-) and then placed there againAfter doing a backup, permissions can be de-synchronized as the admin group is invisibly purged so it can create some strange bugs, the founder should try to re-add all admins in admin group again and see if the issue persists.

Re: Topic Vanished, backup not working
Hello @Loria,
So, we don't know why but the topic was in the forum that existed no more No idea how it happened (it seems it's the first time we can see such a situation ), but our technician moved it again in the forum where it was before. So you can see it now : https://cityofkampfer.forumotion.com/t689- .
Sorry for this technical problem.
Have a nice day,
Best regards
