Admin cannot login - says banned

One of my admins at http://faded-aspidistra.bestforumonline.com/ cannot login today. She is getting a "You have been banned from this forum" message.

She is not banned in her profile in the ACP. I have tried resetting her password and I cannot log in as her either so the problem is not related to her computer.

She was last logged in at 0345GMT but did not post, problem has occurred since then.

Any name that I add to the Admin group is also shown as banned

The names I have added to the Admin group cannot be removed. As soon as the page is reselected they are back.

I have selected an old inactive user, changed the password, added it to admin and that also gets the banned message

I have resurrected another user, renamed it and not made it admin and that login works.

Just checked - still banned. You cannot ban an Admin without removing admin rights first. I cannot even remove admin rights so that I can ban then unban to see if that will clear it. This is software - not ACP selection.

I have managed to remove Admin rights - they need to be removed in group administration and in user permissions. I then banned the user, unbanned them and the login still gets the banned from this forum message.

I have also taken an unused account, changed the login then made that account Admin and it still works. At the moment this user account with over 20000 posts cannot be used.

And just to make sure that I have made myself clear, there are two active admins and neither of us banned this account.

Troubleshooting:

make sure her IP address is not banned and the Email address

is its not banned try this

ban the ip and the Email address then go to

General tab then >>
Forum Configuration

Resynchronize your forum : Check to resynchronize

Save



then unban the ip and Email address and get your member to to do this

How to - Clear the cache in FireFox/Internet Explore/Chrome

once this is done you may want to do this step again

just to ask: where is the member from uk france usa other ? i ask this as i banned a mamber on a site i admin and he was from the uk and was with BT and they have a rolling Ip address on there modems some times ip addresses that are banned get gave to other members of the site that are banned take note of all your ip addresses you may have banned and then remove them all and see if that helps also.

I have no banned IP addresses and no banned email addresses APE (I only have 3 banned members who all asked to be blocked for their own reasons) - the lady in question is on BT in the UK. I have logged onto her account from my computer (also on BT UK) and get the same response. I have physically gone to her house and logged on to my account from her computer (her IP address). If I get no other suggestions from Admin I will try the synchronise & cache clear

I hope this problem gets fixed for you.

The only other thing you could try is to go to The Utilities - Backup and Restore
try the ban setting in there maybe that would work also
the only thing is the members that have asked to be removed (Banned) will also come back so making a list of them to re-add would be an idea

OK APE, thanks. I looked at the banned admin account and the only thing odd was the email account which was a dummy to avoid all the emails going to more than one person. I changed that to a real one. Cleared the cache on FF on this machine and she cleared Chrome on hers. Problem gone. SO it was either a coincidence that it is now OK or the email addy/cache clear combo fixed it. And if its the latter my thanks to you.
