First topic message reminder :

Brand new servers for better performances

Dear users,

We are going to replace some Forumotion servers, so we can offer you better performances.
This manipulation is harmless for your forums. Only a few slowdowns can be encountered during the process when browsing your forums.

Update : The techs are still working to solve all issues regarding the servers change, please notify me of all remaining bugs/glitches you may encounter, apart from you forum not being accessible.

For people getting Error 500 (Server error) it's most commonly to do with your templates.
The solution is to simply re-publish the template overall_header_new.

Best,
Forumotion Team

I did in the past, that group went away. I am attempting to help a friend set up a new forum as i found this hosting site easy to use and user friendly, plus i could help her with any questions she might have.

My error occurs after i confirm the password. My process is I click set up new forum, select the style, put in the forum information and admin information, click the check box, hit continue, retype the admin password and hit continue. The screen blanks out and just sits there no emails are received confirming the set up.

I originally thought it might be a browser incompatibility I have tried Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer all to no avail. Also I am not using the same email account to set up the new forum. Originally i figured i was just missing the obvious but upon finding this thread i suspect this might be a bug with the server upgrade.

If I need to be patient I understand. An updated estimate time of resolution would be most appreciated. I can only tell my friend how good it will be for her for so long before I have to put up or shut up.

Thank You,
TLR

I wish there was some updates ? I find this situation very un-professional I understand that the tech guys are having problems but some sort of communication would go a long way for all of us I am a member on another forum where they did the same changed the server and they host nearly 150.000 customers it took them 4 days and and there was very little break in the service nothing like what is happening here, and they kept everyone informed as to what the progress was, this is not a criticism but an observation of the differences between a similar situation.

Come on Guy's help us here !! just give us some information or time scale please

I've been giving all informations I've got, I'm like you waiting from updates from IBM, that will now be hosting our servers.

Although, what can be said here, is that all forums will run smooth up to 5:00PM (GMT +1), time when you might encounter some slowdowns, as it's our high peak of traffic.
IBM is waiting to get a new "switch" for the servers, as they clearly underestimated our traffic.

The plan of this upgrade was to offer you a 99,9% uptime, faster access to your forums, and this will happen once this switch is replaced.
Once all is in place, I can guarantee you that all servers issues will be part of the past for a couple of years at least Smile

Thanks so much for your update, Typlo.

Incidentally, many of my smilies are no longer showing, will this issue be resolved soon?

Thanks again.

Yeah, thanks for the update, but a massive company like IBM should be able to deal with this a damn site better. 5 days of crap service....do i get a refund?? I doubt it!
My forum and this forum is up down again today, and its really peeing my members off. The category my forum is in, is highly competitive and we've worked bloody hard over the past 3 months to build the membership to where it is now.
Blizzard did server changes, and compared to forumotion, is wayyy bigger and has loads more traffic yet they manage to do it during a 3 hour shut down! Yes there were some slight clitches, but at least it didn't keep going off line, and was sorted fully the following night.

The chatbox has been deactivated for testing, so we can see if its deactivation during the maintenance can be a temporary solution to slowdowns.
A definitive correction for all issues is scheduled for Thursday.

I was able to create the new forum, that issue appears to be resolved and the forum appears to be running fine at this time.

Thanks for the updates Typlo. It would figure IBM is/was hosing everything up, par for the course i suppose.

Maintenance on new servers - Page 9 Empty Re: Maintenance on new servers

Post by rellison8 October 7th 2009, 4:38 am

I am having an issue where I can access the site just fine on my home PC and then I go to the office and it hasn't been able to load the site in over 5 days. It just loads about half of the bars on the bottom and shows a white page. Same thing with all forumotion sites including the support site.

Is this issue related to that problem cause I have tried about everything and my pc loads all other websites just fine?

Just curious, I understand about the issues, not a big deal.

Yes, this would be because of the little switch on the servers.

In the meantime, I suggest that you use a proxy to access the forumotion sites you use, as they appear to be helping those whom are having connection instabilities or not connect all together.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I work with it until things come around. Just didn't wanna be blaming it on this issue if it wasn't related. thumleft
