Forum spam service problem
Recently it appears that my forum has been visited by some sort of forum spam service. We've recently had users making accounts. When they're online I check the ip address on a website I use, that says it is a confirmed proxy service and a "recently reported forum spam service" Only one of these users has ever made a post, saying something about Xbox Live. As I am not sure what a "forum spam service" exactly does, I don't know whether to be worried about this or not.

You will just need to keep an eye out for questionable accounts. Inform your staff on your forum. You can also have the registration where you have to approve it.

Re: Forum spam service problem
Hey Brianman23,
Are you saying that your forum has been recently receiving more automated spam? If so, there are ways you can go-about adding more security preventions for new users to join the site, and avoid the pesky spam.
Is this what you'd like to do? Because if you don't do that, there's really not much you can do, besides ban and delete these accounts upon registration.
Cody
By the way: These spam bots are automatically generated bots that have been highly coded to post advertisements or spam, all over your board. They are created by coders who use their power for harm.

So you're saying they're bots?
The strange thing is that only one has ever posted and just made one post seemingly advertising xbox live.
If the only thing I have to worry about though is the bots posting ads and spam, I think I can handle it. I am just worried about the possibility of the bots trying to do something really harmful to the forum.

Re: Forum spam service problem
Exactly!
They are bots, that will do things from PM spamming to simply joining the forum because they weren't coded properly to make a post.
I promise it's nothing to worry about, as ForuMotion has put several things in-place to prevent this from getting out of hand.
