Member Deleted Their Own Account But That Was Never An Option?
Okay, I just might be going crazy so hear me out. I have always had my forum set as "NO" on the "Allow Members to Unsubscribe" option because it's my personal preference. So today, I get an E-mail that says a user has deleted his own account? How is that possible? And, it was recorded in my Admin records as well:
Anyone know how this happened? I checked in my "Ban" file and the IP has not been banned nor has the users E-mail address. I was just thinking if she had registered today and then been automatically deleted why that would have happened.
My forum is http://plasticparadise.forumotion.com
Help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Interesting. If they can do it through Forumotion's website, then why even have the "Allow Members to Unsubscribe" as an option? Kind of silly...
Case closed unless someone can fix it so that it we can really chose to have members not be able to unsubscribe!

You learn something every day! I’ve never allowed members to delete their own accounts for two reasons:-
1. A couple of years ago, I witnessed troublemakers joining a ProBoards forum, using several identities each, and then deleting their accounts before the e-addresses and IPs could be recorded.
2. When an account is deleted, all the posts by that person become anonymous and simply say ‘guest’. It seems the only way to rectify that is to add the name of the poster to each message, which requires making a note of where all that person’s posts are before the account is deleted. If anyone wishes to have their account closed that right must be respected, but if they close it themselves it becomes almost impossible to identify their posts afterwards.
It would be a great innovation by Forumotion if, when an account is deleted, the name of the former member could remain visible on all of his or her posts.

Thanks for chiming in. You listed the exact reasons why I don't like it that they can delete their own accounts. And great suggestion by the way...

Hello plasticparadise. Two members of my forum have died this year, one quite recently. One had posted 1,869 messages, the other 108 messages. Out of respect to them, I don't want to delete their accounts and see all their messages become anonymous. It would be much better if their names could be recorded on them.
