In progress New User Notifications

Post by Guardian-Angel December 22nd 2015, 5:19 pm

Hello

I'm sure I had this problem before, but after searching I cannot find it.

When a new user joins our forum, I was notified by email which is fine and what I preferred.

New user registration

Hello,

A new member, called "XXXX", has joined . You can view his or her profile using the following link:

http://www.bachandbachettefans.net/profile.forum?mode=viewprofile&status=unregistered&u=badgirl2015

All of a sudden, I'm receiving this:

1.
New user registration
Hello,

A new member, called "XXXX", has joined . You can view his or her profile using the following link:

http://www.bachandbachettefans.net/profile.forum?mode=viewprofile&status=unregistered&u=ausdd77

Followed by this:

2.
New user account

Hello,

The account owned by "XXXX" has been deactivated or newly created, you should check the details of this user (if required) and activate it using the following link:

When I click here, it says:

The account has now been activated

Why am I receiving the second notice?

The first does not exactly say to activate the account, but the second one does.

The first is what I've always received, and is acceptable.

The second notice is sent directly after the first.

When I click the link "Click here" and get this message "The account has now been activated" is that telling me I've activated it by clicking the link?? If I dont' click it those accounts are not being activated? This just occurred to me that might be the situation.

ETA: Yes, answering my own question. I believe that's the case. I see quite a few inactive accounts recently joined in the last couple of weeks. I have not clicked on each notice that I received. Is there a setting somewhere that asks administrator to activate a new account?

Hello,

You can also activate user accounts in ACP-->Users and groups-->Inactive user-->New users , tick the ones you wish to activate and hit save.

There is also a new spam system where forums that are not active and/or forums that have spammer accounts that were deleted by the new system where the setting is changed to admin.

I know I can manually activate an account, and I have done that in the past if there was an issue with a new account, but it looks like now I have to manually activate every single new user. This is a change that I didn't make and I can't find any section that refers to having an option to do this.

I activated approximately 20 that joined in the last couple of weeks, (that I didn't realize were waiting to be activated) and noticed the welcome letters were sent out all at once.

Something is not right somewhere. We are a very active forum. I don't want to have to activate every single new user. Once a member joins, they are automatically sent a welcome letter, and they are active. Why is this second step all of a sudden neccesary?

SLGray - what settings were changed to Admin?

As always, any help is appreciated.

It could be that there were some accounts that the spam system caught and deleted on your forum which would change the setting.

I don't know if it means only you can activate it. Maybe it sends the activation e-mail to the user and then also sends an e-mail to the admin in case the user doesn't recieve their copy?

I don't think it means only you can activate the account nor do I believe recieving it has little to do with the new spam system. My forum is active and I recently recieved an e-mail about the same thing. I activated the account manually, just in case. I suppose the only way to know for sure would be to: A) Create a new test account on the forum to see if it disbatches an activation e-mail to you OR B) Have a pro admin ( @The Godfather) confirm whether or not it means all accounts must be activated by hand.

Hello @Guardian-Angel

I an for sure tell you that the first email is sent when a new user sign-up on your forum. This way, you can activate him/her from inactive users or waiting for their verification.
When you get the second email, it means that the user has clicked on the verification link in the email they received.

If you have "New accounts activation" set to "User" this is the reason Wink
If "New accounts activation" would be set to "No activation", you should get only the first email

Give a look :rose:

It was set to Admin. I have no idea why that was changed because I've always received just the first email. I have changed it and will follow up to confirm that was the issue.

If it is being changed to admin, it means either two things:  your forum is not very active or there were spam accounts on your forum that was deleted by the new spam system.

My forum is very active. The change upthread from admin to no activation has solved the problem. Four new users, one email notification for each.

I'm not understanding why the setting would change from Admin to no activation, because of the new spam system? If the spam system finds spam accounts it automatically changes the setting for protection?

Correct.  It deletes the spam accounts and changes the setting to stop further spammers.
