Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
Hello
This has been giving me a headache over the weekend.
" I know someone will say ban them " But who
I have had to delete my twitter account over the weekend, as some person is creating fake UK presenters fan sites on twitter and using my screen caps as well as other screen cappers work from various UK websites.
This person uses multiple different user names on other UK sites, and I am sure this person is on both my forumotion sites but using different user names.
This person includes my caps when tweeting tv presenters and includes my twitter account when contacting these presenters. I have been informed that this person is upsetting some presenters.
I have no interest in being associated with half wit brainless idiot, but I am at a loss what to do
The only thing I can think of at the moment is to either delete all users or to delete the forum
" How can you ban a member that I do not know who it is" I know my other site has over 1500 members which I would say 35 % are multiple memberships. During December I deleted over 50 duplicate memberships including those that have " Disposable E-mail Addresses"
Any advice will be most appreciated
Regards

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
I would take the time to look though the IP address' if he is bothering your site and has made a post on it then you can find the IP on a post he has made. Otherwise you should await more extensive help from FM.

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
Unfortunately IP addresses will not be of use, due to not knowing who it is as most on my sites are non posters. Even if I spot a UK IP in the admin panel, if I ban automatically I could be banning an innocent member
Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
cassini Hi.
I've had similar problems. The only way to catch these folks is from the AP when they they post and are still on line. It would be a nice feature if you could just click on an a members online avatar and have the ability to immediately see their current IP address. This would give admin/mods the option of banning/deleting the perpetrators privileges. These folks cause nothing more than forum disruption and admin headaches.
FM Would this request be possible for implementation?
I'm sure cassini would agree

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
@Norton and @cassini you are more the welcome to make a suggestion for that feature in our suggestions section . You can see every ip address they ever used by checking the ip address icon on any post, other then this, the admin panel is the only other way currently to read ips, but the user must be online for this.
As for the issue your having, I would try asking around to other forums that had issues with the same user, for any and all possible info they may have, such as usernames he may have used, ips, email addresses ,etc this will help you narrow down your search for who he might be on your forum. If you can find out what his email addresses are, you can then just
search for these email addresses on your forum and if you find any user with one of these email addresses, you know its him and you ban him, his email address etc. This will helpyou ban this guy and only this guy.

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
Thanks Norton and Brandon for your advice
This guy two years ago when he was rumbled went to a charity that dealt with Mental Illnesses and caused two well known sites to close down with litigations against them.
This person claims to have Asperger syndrome however using a different identity claims to be suffering from testicular cancer. He seems very good at being an attention seeker that gets the sympathy from well known tv personalities.
I am not sure that other UK sites would be willing to give me email addresses or IP addresses I know that they have banned trouble makers in the past. However on my two sites, with a larger percentage of members not posting and maybe coming on line when I am not around, it would be difficult to police the admin panel. Unless I block all members from viewing the site

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
If this person has posted on your forum, you could look at the posts and see if any look similar to his/hers posts on other sites and Twitter.
There is not really anything that you can do since you can not identify the member on your forums. If you could, you can then ban the accounts.

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
@SLGray @Brandon_g
Thanks for the advice and useful tip. Brando-g, your tip will certainly help me.
It answers my concern and avoids scooting over to the admin panel. I've seen that icon so many, many times and never even clicked on it. I guess it's just plain ignorance on my part. As adults, it seems that we become comfortable with the way we use and view the operational aspects of forums, browsers... Pc's in general and don't explore other options even though they may be stirring us in the face. Also as adults/seniors we tend not to explore new technology for fear of screwing things up. A child wouldn't think twice.
Thanks Again!

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
Thank you for your advice SLGray, Brandon and Norton
I have posted a few comments on a UK site which I have been told a few members have been banned.
I am awaiting for them to appear on my two sites, so that I know who they are

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
Cassini I inboxed you with a Code to save IP addresses of new members give it a try and tell me if t works
I use it on my site and it takes a copy of the IP address and saves it to the profile or each member but only for new Members not the old ones as the code can not find the IP in a post

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
@APE
Can I possibly have that code for saving member IPs? I could really use it on my forum in case I run into any problems once my site is opened.

Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
I'm Running some tests on the code to make sure it works on all forums before i give it out
Re: Problem Member That I Do Not Know Who It Is
a cool little code i was gave to add the IP address to each members Profile when they made a new account.
Pro's
It will take the IP address of the member when they make the account.
Con's
When the member makes an account they see the IP address system in the Setup proses so they can make a change to add a fake one in its place
It can only save the first IP address this member has used when making the account.
It will not take the IP address if the person is already a member of your forum before this code was added.
How to set up this if you want to use it.
Step 1
Settings for new profile:
Type : Text Field
Name : IP Location
Necessarily filled ? YES
Display : Profile
Display type : TEXT
Who can modify the profile field value ? LEAVE BLANK
Display this field for users that are at least : Admin only
Now save.
Step 2
Installing JavaScript:
Title * : IP Profile
In all the pages
Now save
Step 3 (Last step)
Now go to any profile and Click on the field you just made IP Locater
a Popup should show up like this
Copy just the bottom line as you will need this to edit your Javascript you just made
Now you have the Code go to your Javascript in your ACP again and click the little Cog >>
Now we need to edit some text
Find and Delete:
Now find:
You will see there is 2 of the same code you will need to replace them both.
Now save
Now when a new member makes a new account the IP address of that member should be in the profile when they log in as a new member.
To test this i made a fake account and see my own IP address show in that account.
Hope this works for you to
Also you can add IP address by hand aswell
This should work in all forums Not tried in Punbb thou
