Solved Newsletter Delay 30/03/16

Post by SophieDophs Wed 30 Mar - 23:18

I'm wondering if there's a current issue with the newsletter function.

I sent a newsletter to my forum members at 18:10 this evening and at 22:15 is still has not arrived in my inbox, fours hours later.

Neither is it in the 'Newsletter Tracking & Archives'.

This is most unusual.

Is it lost in cyberspace or just stuck in a long newsletter queue?

I guess it depends what constitutes a lot, but it does have over 600 members. However, many of these are deactivated and many set not to received news.

I regularly send newsletters and it never takes this long. Usually less than 15 minutes.

yes, I came here specifally just now to see if there was any posts on this problem.

My forum only has 81 members, and I also have never experienced this before,
usually shows up in my sent folder, and my mailbox within minutes.

Just so you know I did this twice today, about an hour apart, and still nothing, although both times, I did receive the verification mail to confirm the way it looks, only never received the final send either time.

Any idea what's wrong?

UPDATE:

Having just checked my emails, I see that the newsletter arrived in my inbox at 22.43 yesterday (half hour after I raised this issue). It is most unusual for this function to take 4.5 hours.

I've just checked the ACP and it's now listed in the tracking and archives, under the date column, as Wed Mar 30, 2016 9:43 pm. To recap, I initially sent it around 6:10 pm and it arrived at 10:43 pm.

@Digiscrapcafe - yes, I experienced the same, i.e. the verification mail, to confirm the way it looks, did arrive okay but not the actual newsletter. However, mine has now arrived, hope yours has, too.

Hello, as you may or may not know we have 1000's of members all sending News letters a day to spread this out we have a system that puts all the news letters in a Cue so it don't over load the servers. As the system gets used less the news letters are sent out.

Once the news letters have been sent out from our servers its then in your Email host's hands to get this to you as soon as they can.

I'm not 100% sure but i think its the same for them to.

We do ask you hold out for a news letter for up to 24hrs and then if the news letter has not been posted to you Email then there could be a problem.

Think of it this way if you like.
1 forum has 2000+ members all getting one News letter.
Next forum has 10,000 members all getting the same news letter.
your forum has what ever.
500 +forums all sending the news letter the same time and date as you some thing has to hold it all back just like your Post man that gives you your letters to your own door To lighten the load The post office will hold some back for the next day and send them out.

So to ask 24hrs is nothing as its a free service and we do our best to give you this really good system.

I hope you now understand why it may take some time to get your news letters out to you and your members.

Regards

APE

Solved Re: Newsletter Delay 30/03/16

Hello,

If you sent the newsletter out to all forum users and your forum has alot of users (around 100 or more) it can take a bit of time to send them all out, it usually will take no longer then 24 hours, but it can be normal for it to take up to 24 hours to send them all out. This is because are system can only send out so many newsletter at one time, so it sends them like 10 to 15 at a time over the course of a few hours. That is why the process can take awhile sometimes, plus if there are newsletters from other forums that the system needs to send out before yours, that also can factor into how long it takes to send out your newsletter to all users, because our system needs to finish sending the newsletter of one forum before it moves on to the next. Smile

Hope that provides some clarity onto how the newsletter system here at forumotion works and why it can take up to 24 hours in some cases or on some occasions to send out your newsletter to your users. Wink Very Happy

Thank you for your comments.

I understand perfectly the principle of Queues...

I also appreciate the forum is free.

The only reason I raised a ticket was because the wait I experienced yesterday was completely out of character for the forum function and I was concerned there was a problem as I have never experienced this before, despite sending countless newsletters. And, it turns out, other forum admins had experienced this, too.

It does not say anywhere in the ACP about waiting 24 hours before reporting, but thank for your elucidating me on this procedure.
