Write Topics / Messages Disabled
One of my Mods PM'd me and said they couldn't create new topics and it seemed that members were only replying to previous topics. I checked the AP Forum Permissions and I found the permission field "Write Topic or Messages blank in all of the forums. I reselected Members and everything appears to be working as per forum design. It's a strange anomaly for sure, seems to have just happened today. I did notice the forum was rather slow today. Now I know.
Any help as to the cause / glitch would be appreciated.

Re: Write Topics / Messages Disabled
You were looking at the basic permissions on the sub-forum. It will show up as blank if the sub-forum has modifications in the advanced permissions.

What I mean is if specific groups not default on the simple part are selected (from advanced), the permissions below count and at the top it will show blank.
For example, if I select only Graphic Designers and Administrators to post in this section, it will show up as blank because there is no option to just select those two groups in the simple part.

I'm sorry but I'm still not understanding, members and guests are specific groups in the simple and advanced. I have tried both methods simple and advanced and both show member in the upper section when selected.
My question was why did members permissions disappear. They PM'd me they could not create new topics, because their permissions where all disabled. After I logged off members posted new topics overnight. But somtime overnight their permissions where all disable in all forums. Could it have been a back-up glitch?

if its working now it may have been linked to this topic https://help.forumotion.com/t146648-only-topicdown-time-02-04-16 we had some down time on our servers or datacenter.
we still have no word on the cause of this so it maybe linked to that as well we just don't know.

Ape Thanks! That's about the time it started. If I go back into the Admin panel everything is as left. That is, members are now shown to have permission to write topics or messages in the advanced and simple Categories and Forum Permissions
As Found: When reported by members.
I believe it went to the default setting which is left "Blank" during the downtime, the permissions are filled in by the Admin/Founder when initially setting up the Forum Permissions.

You could be right @Norton but when no option is selected, normally it would count as member. Just tried saving whiplike it was blank and it become member.

Re: Write Topics / Messages Disabled
Forumedic Thanks for your reply.
I understand what you are saying. But, if that were the case, and let's say that you left the Team Room (Admin & Mods) blank, would you really want it to default to members and or guest's. I certainly hope that's not the case. I'm aware that Team Rooms are hidden from members viewing, which is a good thing. The above case was just theoretical on default permissions.
Thanks Again
@Norton

When you are setting permissions, it is best to be in advanced mode. By looking at your screenshots, it looks like you were in simple mode. The advanced permissions link is at the bottom of the page.

Thanks! I have never been in the AP in the simple mode. The screen shots were for clarification of the events that occurred yesterday. I guess it was a glitch with yesterday's downtime problems on my forum and FM forum? Everything is working today as per FM design and forum traffic and posting is back to normal.
