Important : back up of all the deleted messages and topics

Dear users,

This week-end, we had to deal with a big threat that has impacted a lot of users : indeed, all the "visitors" messages where deleted from most of the forums. Thousands of forums where impacted and we had to do something, because sometimes, visitors messages are just the messages from the old members and a part of the forum history, so we had to save it.

For that, we have to make a back up from all the Forumotion forums. Don't worry : only the messages that you deleted during these past 2 weeks will be impacted. That means that you might see a topic that you deleted recently reappearing on your forum. You can just delete it again Wink

Thanks to this back up, thousands of forums will find back their History with a big H.

in my test forum also i deleted the old messages again and in a few hours they reappeared

On the French support forum, the staff has stated to wait until the Forumotion can confirm that the process has been completely finished before doing anything on your forums.

This issue is now affecting accounts, categories, forums, messages, and topics.

Dear users,

After the storm comes the sun : and here we are ! Everything is now normal, which means you can clean your forum as you want, nothing should change anymore. As you could see, we had to back up not only the messages, but also the members and the forums/categories of your forums. Indeed, some topics/messages didn't have author or category anymore, and that was creating some disturbances in your forums.

Our scripts made a mistake and some of your forums got back their members/topics from May. Now that things are done and finished, you can clean your forums as you wish, we are sorry for the inconvenience :rose:

Nothing should change or come back after your modifications of today. If you notice something that is not normal, don't hesitate to tell it to us Mr. Green

Good for many, the forum is normal again. But I still lost over 5000 messages. They will not come back too badly. But good that everything is okay again.

It looks better now. Now see things from guests even though I'm still a little bit tired but am satisfied

User accounts we've deleted in 2017 (not just May) have popped back up. Some of those old users had usernames that were taken by currently active users, and your system has changed the name of all current users to username2 and we're having to go back and delete the accounts and change back everyone's usernames.

We have 15k+ members. Why did all forums have to go through this? At this point we're just going to leave forumotion now instead of waiting til later like we had planned. This on top of onlineguardian blocking members for no reason every month is ridiculous for the amount of money we pay, along with the constant circles we have to go in to get decent support for any of our issues.

@Chelly when our system was hacked in to we had to try and fix this as fast as we could ....

Our teach team worked hard to stop this problem right away and their fast work stopped your forum from going down and only some data was messed up.

It could have been worse you could have lost more and even your forum could have gone down but NO it was still up and running with no down time at all.

Yes it has made a problem with some posts / thread /members /forums but think about it this could have been worse.

as for the IP address banning problem well that is getting sorted out and a new system will be in place when it's ready.

As for better support well I'm sorry i don't give my hole life to the support forum.
I don't get any money for helping and nor dose any other staff here other then pro admin's
I find your comment about this rude and unfair.

to any one else that are not happy think of it this way. we give you a forum for free we don't ask anything from you other than keep to our TOS and you are free to use us as long as you wish.

NO site on the internet is 100% safe and we do our best to give you the best uptime we can.
The system had a problem we did our best to fix it with out any down time. this was not our thought it got messed up but we did what we could at the time. We saved what we could.

In the UK only the other month our NHS was hacked and we had big problems and this was a big problem. so not even that system was safe from hackers.

No matter what site you pick to host you will always get the same if not worse.
