(#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
Hello dear Forumotioners,
I noticed 2 things that aren't working properly in the Publications module on our official Forum which has a domain name provided by an external host!
1: When I'm at the publications page the link "Go back to forum" redirects to our homepage instead of our forum at http:/www.domainname/forum..
This takes extra steps to go back to the forum! On my test forum everything works as it's supposed to, so why not on our official forum?
2: The problem is in the editor itself all http://www. prefixes are cut off when published while all https:// prefixes work fine and since we didn't purchase a https certificate the links with the http://www. prefix don't work correctly as you can see in this screenshot:
You can see for yourself on this Article from our official forum, on my testforum everything works fine, even the http:www. prefix get's published as it should be. Could that be caused by the external domain name we use, or is it a bug?
I hope someone can help fix this?
Kind regards,
Tonny Kamper

PM received.
I am a little confused. Are the HTML pages part of your forum or another one?

They are part of our forum @SLGray I've made them myself, with the help of hosting some parts on GitHub
Edit: our domain is set to our homepage which is a html page.
Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
If you have a domain name then all your forum's pages should have the domain name, too.

They all do @SLGray , but since our base address is set to a html page, the forum needs the addition of /forum etc.
As you can see in the publications module the link "Go back to forum" does not direct to the forum but to the base domain which is a html page set as our homepage, which is not what it's supposed to do..

Our homepage, which is an html page is the first thing loading when our domain name www.nederlandheelt.nl/ is addressed and on that html page is a link to our forumpage (index) embedded, when clicked it shows this url in the addresbar http://www.nederlandheelt/forum
Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
Are you done with the account on our site @SLGray ? Can I change the password for that account again?
I wouldn't mind so much that the "Go back to forum" link doesn't link to the forum but to our homepage if I were able to place a link in the messages, the main problem is I can't place links to any other page than our homepage, any other http://www. prefix get's cut off, so I can't link to the actual forum or topics on our sites.. I really feel this is a bug, because on my other testforums that don't have own domain names everything works fine, any link can be added there and display the way they should...

Yes. I am done with the account.
Are you using the add a link button in the publication's editor?
When I tested this on my forum: http://www.nederlandheelt.nl/forum . It worked. When I hovered over the link, it showed www.nederlandheelt.nl/forum.

Okay, thank you very much for your help! And yes I use the link button in the editor @SLGray I type it in correctly, but when I publish the article the http://www. prefixes are gone and when I then go back to edit again they are also gone when you edit the link..
You can see it when you hoover over the "Forum" link I placed in this Article almost at the bottom... I have tried to edit it at least 10 times already, it keeps cutting off..

Do you have any coding that could affect this page or any JavaScripts? If yes, turn them off and check the links.

I edited my last post while you replied @SLGray please read it... on every other forum I have no problems in adding a link to my official forum, only on my official forum publications the prefixes keep getting cut off

I already tried that @SLGray and I have no javascripts addressing that function, neither are the templates of the Publications module edited..
I don't get it.. it's driving me a little crazy

Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
I received a reply:
The problem is that his Domain Name is attached via CNAME and that his forum index is not directly appealed with nederlandheelt.nl . There is maybe something to try with his Registrar, but we cannot operate all the cases with CNAME... sorry !

Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
Wow, that is quite a disappointment @SLGray do you think it would be solved if I set the forum index to homepage so it's the first thing that will load on the domainname? Or wouldn't that solve anything?
Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
You can try it to see if it works. Have you contacted the domain name provider?

SLGray wrote:You can try it to see if it works. Have you contacted the domain name provider?
Thank you @SLGray and no I haven't contacted them yet, because I have no idea of what to ask them
Because the domainname in CNAME is directed to whatever is set as the first page loading, so I can try that as an option, but there's still the issue of not being able to put links in the articles which leads to topics or messages on our own forum.. but I'll give it a try anyway, to see if switching homepage with the actual forum solves that issue too, I'll report back what my findings are
Kind regards,
Tonny Kamper
UPDATE:
Well setting the index of the forum to load first on the domainname solved the "Go back to forum" issue SLGray, it now leads back to the forum index..
But the biggest issue of not being able to post links to any page of the forum but the forumindex still remains, which is a real bug in the system if you ask me.. it's strange they can't do anything to fix it

Bump..
I can´t imagine I am the only one with an external domain name who´s having this problem, the editor isn´t working right

Re: (#3691) : Bug in the Publications module with an external domain name?
Thanks @APE
I still can't place links to pages or articles on my forum on the Publications, the http://www. prefix get's cut off and the link then just redirects to the forum under the url it's was originally created: http://nederlandheelt.actieforum.com instead of to the linkaddress I provided! I can place links with https in front which are accepted perfectly..
I just found out another strange thing of which I'm wondering if that can be the cause, I'll show it with screenshots..
When I open my admin panel on the index it shows the right url, the right domain name like this:
But on the Credits section our URL is displayed without the www. prefix like this:
And if you type that 2nd url in your browser it directs to the original creation url instead of our domain name url..
So I wonder if that could be causing the problem of not being able to put links to our pages in the Publications?
(see my previous posts above for more explanation and screenshots..)
