Adverts Popping Up
Had a lot of Members complaining recently, Adverts Popping up all the Time on Screen........when They go from Topic to Topic Adverts appear in the middle of the Page, or when They making a Post or replying on a Topic, Halfway through it Pops up and interupts There Typing .
Ive had the Usual Google Adverts along the Top of My Forum for a while, but now These have appeared and are ruining My Forum which Ive had for the Past 10 Years, Memberds are getting sick of it and reluctant to Post.
Any Help or Info Anyone Please ...?

Please post a screenshot off this issue? Also is this happening to all members, browsers, and devices?

Re: Adverts Popping Up
Well, that kind of ad exactly happens on other sites, too. I have seen it on browser gaming sites. It also happens on ForumsClub.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
Thank you for your Address At first when I looked at your forum I never see this but after going around your forum looking at 2 or 3 of your posts I then got what your talking about.
This dose look like it is coming from our Ad's system maybe it is something google have made us have like The Godfather pointed out in his link's
I would hope that we have some power over this as I can see this is really hard to use your forum if it keeps popping up every time you go over to a new page. No one wants to have to click on the X every time you use a forum.
I Will tag @Luzz and @The Godfather to look in to this as this will defiantly drive members away from your forum and our systems.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
Sadly it dose look like a google ad's thing but I hope that we have the right to change the way the ad's are placed on our forums but I don't know as I don't work in the head office and not seen the google ad's tools.
Re: Adverts Popping Up
I only notice them after I click a link, button, option, game, etc. So from what I have seen, it seems you have to do something for them to appear.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
I will tell you how it worked on the members forum @SLGray each time I clicked on a forum it then popped up when I refreshed a page it then was no there but as soon as I clicked on a new forum it popped up again.
So yes it does look like it's when you click some thing or when it's a new page but this is a lot to take for our members and our host. No one would like it for to long.
The only way to stop this would to buy a package and remove ad's but not everyone has the money for this.
So Yes each time I clicked on a forum or a post it popped up and that is not good at all.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
In the article it looks like the popup ads cab be disabled (Forumotion would have to do it in their adsense account). It does seem like a Google update because a few sites I am on suddenly have them. Bad idea by Google as they make ads even more annoying and make people want to get adblocker even more.

Hello @davidl
Please can you test again and tell us if it's better now?
We understand, it's really annoying for all of us. Especially when clicking on links to connect or disconnect
Google Adsense is our main partner in terms of advertising and in addition, it guarantees quality content. But they removed many options to limit the appearance of certain advertisements (before we could give a percentage, block some formats...). Likewise, Google is becoming very invasive on display formats and frequencies.

My basic testing on 3 sites have not had any problems with the Ad's but lets see if the members have any more problems
I spent 10 minuets on each forum just going over posts with no problems.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
The pop ups are persisting regularly on a forum I use that doesn't have adverts disabled
Re: Adverts Popping Up
@The Godfather
Just retested this on my test forum and the Ad's are still showing as a popup

Same on my test forum but not on my main forum
Maybe they are appearing on less active forums

Re: Adverts Popping Up
No it depends on Google Adsense, the team is checking the option available for this ad. Google is strongly pushing the display of its ads at the moment. And even on very intrusive formats when Google punished publishers who used them...

It is strange. As like you the day before I noticed they had just about disappeared, and then they were back again popping up every time I clicked on a link to go to a different page
Re: Adverts Popping Up
The Adverts seem to have changed now, some Members dont see them as much, and Some See them differently now along the Bottom of the Page when changing Topic etc , one Member says His Adverts are Trending Adverts (?)........I have asked Members to keep Me updated, will report back.

Re: Adverts Popping Up
Hello,
To take a quick look at the Google Adsense interstitials that appear on desktop (devices with wide and large screen), the technical team is still looking for a solution.
Basically, Google Adsense launched this new feature by activating it by default on all websites (see here https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/10107008). In our case, that represents thousands of websites. The problem being that you have to manually deactivate this option for each website... which is therefore almost impossible given the number.
We are therefore looking for a solution as a parameter to add to the Adsense code to indicate that we do not want this type of advertising but at the moment it does not seem to exist for the moment. The team is still working on it.

Turn this option off if you don't want vignette ads to appear on screens wider than 1000px, like desktop.
