Question about notifications
hi
ok so my forumotion forum is not online yet
but i was wondering about something that i find very important to know before i even start releasing a forum with forumotion
do members get notified when one of their post is quoted?
if not, is there a way to still get that activated throughout codes or something?
i would find it very weird if you do not get notified on quoted messages
as like not everybody will remember to always mention/tag someone etc
on any other forum i know this is always possible
thank you

Re: Question about notifications
No sadly the system will only tell you if you have a quote if you tag them in the post or if they have already been tagged in the Quote.
Re: Question about notifications
first of all, thanks for the fast replyApe wrote:No sadly the system will only tell you if you have a quote if you tag them in the post or if they have already been tagged in the Quote.
secondly, i am guessing this is out of your hands and not on you that it is this way
but i do want to express my opinion that i think that it is utter ''insert your own word here''
lol
really freaking strange, i been a forum user for YEARS AND YEARS
and always with every software i been using, free and paid
you get notified when people quote your message AS A FORUM SHOULD DO
no notifications when quoted is going to create a lot of missed messages which is just no good
this is a deal breaker to even begin with forumotion
though i do still find forumotion a better free way than proboards etc i think feature wise
just really sad about this
is there any coder that could make this possible for me?

Re: Question about notifications
yes i doSLGray wrote:Do you have the tagging usernames activated?
though not sure why you are asking
it is cool and handy forumotion has got a tag system like every other forum has nowadays
definitely good feature
but that doesn't make it any less of a fact that enough people will be missing quoted messages if they do not get notified
because not everyone will always remember to tag people when they quoting , i am sure you all know on any other forum, people are used to be able to quote and notify others of their reply to a post without having to do more than that to be able to start a conversation with someone in a topic
i get this all can be resolved by telling everyone all the darn time to tag in quoted messages or else others don't get notified....
but this is could easily become a hassle for many forum users in general if joining my future forum on forumotion
running a forum without such a big useful standard forum option is just a drag to be honest
and i understand your answer then simply could be; well go to another forum host then bye bye
XD
BUT i really like forumotion so far on a lot of other aspects
PLEASE LET THIS BE POSSIBLE for some coder to add this in a way
Re: Question about notifications
If the member is watching the topic, he/she should get a notification of new replies. We do not have one for quotes.

Re: Question about notifications
do you mean inside this thread or a new seperate request thread?SLGray wrote:It would be best just to let them post if they help.
i'd like to be a proactive person and since this matter is extremely important whether i go through with making something on forumotion
i would like to find out if in any case it is even possible for a coder to make it happen
maybe people will tell me it is not possible due to some coding facts, i mean i was really surprised i couldn't find any other threads for people requesting this
honestly baffled me, so wouldn't surprise me if it is not even possible perhaps and if so, i would like to know instead of waiting inside this thread for god knows how long , as this thread is probably not even going to be noticed by many except for maybe some staff
now don't get me wrong, i understand we in the holiday week and everyone is busy with family and i totally respect that
so i probably won't get quick responses at all until maybe in january, which is ok
but i would really appreciate it if you could perhaps redirect me to a board here or another forumotion forum where i could at least put up an official request for this
thank you very much
Re: Question about notifications
hello
since this is a holiday season for all of us yes i think it is better to wait a couple of days and if a member can make a code for you he/she will reply on this topic. Please be patient we are all volunteers here and we try to do our best
i will like to inform you also that you are not allowed to open similar threads to multiple support forums

You could also suggest it to our team here >> Suggestions if you get the votes maybe our tech team will think about making it happen but this could take time or may never happen.

@ape
Thanks for the tip but i don't think that is much of use since it looks like some things are taking years? Or am i missing something?
I read something about multiple skins and you replied to the thread yourself but didnt look like it got through?
@skouliki
No worries i understand
I can't help but be enthusiastic about wanting to make a forum, that's all.
The last thing you said, saying different support forums... You mean the different boards on this support forum right?
I mean you cannot restrict someone from asking help from coders on a completely different website right, so another forum I mean
Also i just thought.... This was just a thread to ask to make sure its not available feature
Finding that out i thought it was procedure to go officially request a code on here
But most if not all are requested in the official suggestion area that only staff is allowed to do something with?
Im used to other platforms, like proboards or jcink
Where coders can volunteer all the time to make something happen for someone but i have a feeling here its only staff who does so? Or am i misunderstanding?

@slgray
That looks like desktop view? I was talking about mobile viewing... I swear its not there for me on mobile.... But I checked on my own forum
Has nothing to do with mobile version but probably my rights
There are three dots in post right bottom corner, they suppose to give you edit option when clicking but i can't click on here but i can on my own forum
Do have to look into that though, about the rights thing on my own forum
Dont want members to have this problem
So you guys mean im not allowed to ask for help on other language official support forumotion forums
Ok got it, wasn't planning on it because i meant something totally different
Side question, where can i find a list of support forums in different languages? As i wonder if my language is in there somewhere

@thecrow
Hello
merry christmas to you too! hope you had a good time so far
yes i use modernbb theme
are you here to help me with my request on enabling forum notifications when people quote another?
quick question; with versions you guys mean forum theme/skins right?
because the forum itself is always build upon using phpbb3 right?
so for my logic there is 1 forum software which i would call version but when you guys say versions its another term for what default theme we use?
just want to make sure i understand things correctly
thanks!

Re: Question about notifications
Hey @KPOP,
We're asking for versions of the forums because each version has different elements with the other versions.
So in order to do what you are wanting, I thought of this way:
Ange Tuteur the other day, made a tutorial on how to make the quote button function and don't change window to post a reply with a quote. This what we call quick quote. It simply takes what it would be in a new window to the quick reply editor under the posts. Now I changed the code a little bit, to match ModernBB version and have what you are requesting to have.
So how it works: When someone uses the quote button, nothing changes. But when they post their reply, the user who was quoted gets tagged. As we can't really make a new notification, with this way, there's a hidden element inside the post which tags the user and they get a notification every time someone quotes their message.
So in order to do that you simply need one Javascript:
Name: Whatever you want
Placement: In all the pages
Code:
See when I used this code I got this:
So it worked just fine for me.
Hope this works like you want it to.
Regards,
TC.

quoting shows html/css style
hi there
i have a question
i am working on making a forum
now when i quote my own message on my forum i see
that is not suppose to happen right
that makes no sense and will be confusing for members , to see this in a quoted message
(as most people on a forum have no html css knowledge unlike me and others here)
whilst quoting on here , like in this thread
https://help.forumotion.com/t159872-question-about-notifications?nid=3#1115388
i see as it should be, just the message and username etc
how come this is different on my forum?
how can i resolve this?
thank you

@KPOP,
If you "unselect" the last icon on your editor you should be able to see the quote normally.

but what i showed, the html codes instead of showing the message in bbcode language
is that created by your code you gave me?
it make more sense for people to see the message in such mode with bbcode as people used to seeing that on other forums
seeing in that mode only html stuff and no bbcode will confuse people xD
also, i tested your code you gave me with a test account
but it is not working
Re: Question about notifications
Yes, @KPOP, the code makes it like that.
Unfortunately, this is the way to do it. The html way is the only way I know to be able to insert the tag in there.
I will create an account there on your forum to test it out if it's okay with you.

but nothing you can do about then huh
too bad
i tried to test tagging notifcation... but that didnt work either
but now i was thinking.....are you guys going to tell me i cannot see any notifications coming in now because i disabled the toolbar? if so then thats the reason i am not seeing it works
you kidding right? LOL
i don't want that silly toolbar on top of my forum
is there any way to get notifications pop up without that thing? xD
is Ange Tuteur still active somewhere? could she perhaps make it so that bbcode shows and not html? :o
Re: Question about notifications
@KPOP, he retired long ago. He pops in here and then but not often.
As for the code, somebody may be able to tweak the code the way you want it to. But as for the notifications, no, you can't hide the bar and get the notifications as it's working with that system only. Sadly.
