Why do forumotion sites log IP's?
Couldn't someone just easily leak the IP, sell the users information, or something more serious?

Everywhere on the Internet uses IP's. What exactly are you worried about? Also only staff can see the IP addresses on forums.

So you are worried that some staff of a forum you are part of will sell your IP address? Or are you referring to Forumotion itself?

Re: Why do forumotion sites log IP's?
When you log on the internet your IP address is live to the world. when you log on to google, Facebook, Twitter and all other sites your IP address is saved by your browser and sites you use every day.
Forumotion.com only save basic data like all sites all over the world. Nothing on the internet is really safe no matter how hard you try. Now on your forum the only ones that see the IP address is your staff if you pick for them to see it.
You can stop all staff seeing the IP address and only let your Admin's see it if you so wish.
Why we really use the IP address system is to help ban members if you really need to (More for your forums security against hackers, spam bots, problem members) we also save Email addresses to make the account and help if you need to ban some one.
You have nothing to worry about really.
