SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
Technical Details
Forum version : #PunBB
Position : Founder
Concerned browser(s) : Mozilla Firefox
Who the problem concerns : Yourself
Forum link : www.pokemonforumet.dk
Description of problem
Hi everyone. So I have a problem. I just purchased a domain and followed all the steps for connecting the domain to the forum.
However, typing in the URL results in a "unsafe connection" warning. Firefox allows me to ignore the warning, but mocrosoft edge wont even allow me to enter.
So, what has been going on so far is that I bought the domain, a made a CNAME to the forum and connected it in the forum.
However, I could not get the url to work without the 'www'- so I made a redirect record on my domain page, which in turn removed the CNAME record. However, it is still connected in the AP, and the problem was there before I made the change.
If i remove the redirect, the url will not work without the 'www'-part.
This is the warning I get:

Firefox stoler ikke p? www.pokemonforumet.dk, fordi webstedet bruger et certifikat, der ikke er gyldigt for www.pokemonforumet.dk. Fejlkode: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN
I can not take a screenshot of the page.
Ie, it says it does not trust my domain, because it uses a certificate, that is not valid for my domain.
Can take some screenshots of the domain provider, and the AP if you want.
Thank you in advance

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
Thank you for your answer.
No I assume not.
I dont seem to have access to any SLL settings anywhere in my AP.
And besides, why is that not included in a domain, or the premium package? It seems very sketchy that i buy a Domain, which is "unsafe" and not accessible at all for Microsoft edge users, when i Connect it to the forum unless I also pay for a certificate. And Im already paying to have my forum ad-free on top of that.. which I also think is very weird is not included in the premium subscription...
But how do I get access to the SSL settings?

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
Small update
Seems like there should be a SSL-certificate included in my webdomain. So the new question is, will this work with my forum?
Thank you

Coucou @Særmark
can you provide the link to your forum (forumotion URL and custom domain URL)?
I ask this because the one you provided, https://www.pokemonforumet.dk/, does not exist
In any case, it may take some time for the system to embed your customized domain name (CNAME) into the SSL certificate forumotion provides.

Keep in mind that on a technical level, each change of site address (especially if purchased externally) requires time for the new certificate to be generated, associated and issued.
Usually these times are almost zero (especially because the certificates are automatically regenerated), however in some cases with domains purchased externally it can take longer.
Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
How weird, it works when I press it.
www.pokemondk.forumotion.eu
www.pokemonforumet.dk
Okay, i'll give it a wait, and see if it comes around
Edit:
Seems like both links have the SSL problem now.
We'll see if it comes around later or by tomorrow

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
I get the error "ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS", may because it is still configuring itself
and yeah, give it some times and let's see if the certificate is updated automatically

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
Hello @Særmark
The correct URL of the forum is https://pokemondk.forumotion.eu/ (without the "www") and not www.pokemondk.forumotion.eu
Maybe it can impact the result here.
I can't understand the redirect problem here:
The technical team sent me this message:

To work with a Forumotion forum, you must create a CNAME to the forum.
Everything is indicated in the Administration Panel.

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
A CNAME is created. And it is accepted by the forum.
I have been in contact with my domain provider, and we have tried a few different things:
He activated the SSL manually
And we tried a small change to the CNAME in hopes that the links will work.
I am gonna wait about 2 hours, and see if the changes helped, and then I will mark the topic as solved, if it works
Thank you

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
UPDATE
So it turns out that the SSL i got with my domain, only works with things on their own servers. This is the response I got from customer service: Thank you for waiting. I checked the status of pokemonforumet.dk and it doesn't look like there's an existing website on its webspace. If you're referring to the SSL for the CNAME you created that redirects to an external website, you will need to consult the original host of the domain's website forumotion.eu for that.
one.com only provides an SSL for websites that are hosted on our servers.
So what do I do now? I dont have any SSL options available on the forum?

Now the forum is accessible from the custom domain.
Wait until tomorrow to see if the certificate is generated for your customized domain
I have used one.com domain with a forumotion forum in the past, and I managed to get it work, so let's try to wait now that the forum is linked correctly

Re: SSL Certificate problem after purchasing Domain
Hello
It is normal because a CNAME cannot be placed at the root domain level (it's quite technical).
Now you may manage a redirect https://pokemonforumet.dk/ (the root domain) to https://www.pokemonforumet.dk/ via One

Hi, and thank you for your answer. I apologize for the late response, as I have been sick the last few days.
Just to understand you right, do you mean I can make a redirect from pokemonforumet.dk to www.pokemonforumet.dk now that the SSL has registred?
I tried that in the beginning, but if I do that, the the CNAME gets removed on one.com. Nut maybe that doesn't matter, now that the SSL is working?
Because right now, the URL does not work without the 'www'-part.
Thanks in advance

@Særmark I'd suggest you to directly ask to One.com support
They have a chat support and reply super fast, and they are more entitled to help you with this type of issue, as it is just a matter of configuration through their control panel
