New : SSL certificates are now available for Forumotion forums + Possibility to run forums in HTTPS
Dear users,
As we announced few time ago, Google has decided to accelerate the transition to a more secure web by imposing the HTTPS standard. In order to allow your forums to follow this evolution, Forumotion has the pleasure to announce the setting up of a new option on its forums. You have now the possibility of passing your Forumotion forum in HTTPS. In addition to offering a secure web space to your members, your forum will display a "Secured" label on web browsers.
However, note that this option is still in Beta. Its evolution as well as its availability on the whole Forumotion service will be done in a progressive way.
In order to be able to place your forum in HTTPS, Forumotion has add a new option allowing the founder to order the installation and configuration of an SSL certificate on his forum. This is done from the administration panel> Misc > Spend credits> SSL Certificate:
The cost of installing and configuring the SSL certificate on the forum is 500 credits for a 12 month renewable period.
Note that passing your forum in HTTPS requires that all external resources (images, JavaScripts, CSS, ...) to be called in HTTPS. Otherwise, the forum will not be considered as secure by browsers.
Please note that giving Forumotion forums the possibility to order the installation and configuration of an SSL certificate is still in Beta version especially since it's a complex operation to be implemented technically on major services like Forumotion. Therefore, in order to guarantee the smooth functioning of this transition, the availability will be gradual :
Also note that once HTTPS is enabled on the forum, the "SSL Certificate" option disappears from the admin panel. Because the SSL certificate is closely related to the forum url on which it was installed and configured, the administrator will not be able to modify the forum url as long as the SSL certificate is valid. If necessary, the administrator can make a request to revoke his SSL certificate directly on the support forum.
This restrictive behavior is only adopted during the Beta phase of the SSL project. It will then evolve into greater flexibility once the process is thoroughly honed.
Hoping that this new option will brings you full satisfaction!
See you soon with other news on Forumotion
Regards
In order to give administrators more choice, new HTTPS protocol configuration options are now available.
The "SSL Certificate" part no longer disappears from the administration panel after the SSL certificate has been acquired. In addition to displaying the remaining lifetime for the forum certificate, it displays a new "HTTPS protocol configuration" block that allows the administrator to choose after the forum certificate activation if he wants to keep it in HTTP Or HTTPS.
These options also allow him to force the compatibility of the forum's core resources to the HTTPS or to switch to HTTPS, in a fully automated way, all the links of the basic resources on Forumotin as well as the most used services on the forums. So no more need to make manual link replacements for these services
Also, note that the "Enabling the SSL Certificate (HTTPS)" block in the "Credits management Summary" part now displays the expiration date of the SSL certificate of the forum:
Hoping these improvements will bring you full satisfaction

How to get secured HTTPS url in my forum ?
In order to be able to place your forum in HTTPS, Forumotion has add a new option allowing the founder to order the installation and configuration of an SSL certificate on his forum. This is done from the administration panel> Misc > Spend credits> SSL Certificate:
The cost of installing and configuring the SSL certificate on the forum is 500 credits for a 12 month renewable period.
Note that passing your forum in HTTPS requires that all external resources (images, JavaScripts, CSS, ...) to be called in HTTPS. Otherwise, the forum will not be considered as secure by browsers.
What are the conditions for my forum to switch to HTTPS?
Please note that giving Forumotion forums the possibility to order the installation and configuration of an SSL certificate is still in Beta version especially since it's a complex operation to be implemented technically on major services like Forumotion. Therefore, in order to guarantee the smooth functioning of this transition, the availability will be gradual :
- Phase 1: Transition to HTTPS will be possible only for forums located on the main Forumotion domains with a basic url without a custom domain name.
- SEE THE LIST OF CONCERNED MAJOR DOMAIN NAMES:

- Phase 2: Transition to HTTPS will be possible for forums located on the main Forumotion domains and having a custom domain name acquired via Forumotion.
- Phase 3: Transition to HTTPS will be possible for all other forums.
Also note that once HTTPS is enabled on the forum, the "SSL Certificate" option disappears from the admin panel. Because the SSL certificate is closely related to the forum url on which it was installed and configured, the administrator will not be able to modify the forum url as long as the SSL certificate is valid. Phase 1: Transition to HTTPS will be possible only for forums located on the main Forumotion domains with a basic url without a custom domain name.
so for the moment all custom domains are not allowed only basic url are supported. when it will be opened to personal domain names, the SSL activation process will be the same.

I do not know if everyone understands this or not, but your forum will not be completely secure if your images, third-party links, etc. does not have a secure link, too. I just visited a forum, and noticed that my browser shows that the forum is not completely secure because of images.

Re: New : SSL certificates are now available for Forumotion forums + Possibility to run forums in HTTPS
How much does the credits costs in UK £ I thought forumotion was supposed to be a free forum
I know you can pay for a domain which will cut out all adverts, also I have never had any members saying about safety issues when viewing my sites.

Re: New : SSL certificates are now available for Forumotion forums + Possibility to run forums in HTTPS
cassini you don't need to worry about this your forum will still be safe and will always be free.
The HTTPS address is just something that google Chrome come up with to make things even more safe.
We are not making you or any of the owners of our forums buy the credits but UK price is £4.70 for 500 credits and that's it.
as you can see this is only really inplace to pay this price until its all setup fully then things will be more easy to get the address.
I for one will not pay for this as i have a domain name and i have payed to have this domain. for a year and this setting is not inplace for me anyway as i have the domain name.
Even then i don't see why i should pay for this as it will be free sooner or later by other sites and godaddy has plans to do this with no other charge.

This restrictive behavior is only adopted during the Beta phase of the SSL project. It will then evolve into greater flexibility once the process is thoroughly honed.

Thanks Ape that sounds a bit clearer, as for the prices I see your post about it however my admin panel does not show the prices.
Re: New : SSL certificates are now available for Forumotion forums + Possibility to run forums in HTTPS
if you go to the ACP and go to buy credits then press paypal then click on the dropdown your see the money list of pounds and so on click uk then it will show you the price of the total credits so 500 credits is just under £5
don't worry you will not be buying the credits as you can just click the goback on your browser.
here is a screen shot when clicking paypal on the ACP

The Godfather wrote:How does this affect Forumotion Forums ?
On the discussion forums, members must log in by entering their username and password. This alert will not affect all HTTP pages, but only those that display a "password" field.
For Forumotion forums, this could typically occur on pages with a field asking to enter a password (Login widget, Quick login display, ...).
Don't be afraid, having this alert does not mean that your forum is not secure. This is a simple indication dictated by the new standards imposed by the use of a secure connection protocol between the web server that hosts your forum and your web browser.
