SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
Hello
I ran into an issue with SSL certificate. Everything went great with long URL (http://familyvastaneliit.forum.co.ee), I got my secure label. However, my custom domain (http://www.faval.eu) throws an error and browser says that it is not secure. If I remember correctly then it showed a common name mismatch error.
I think that SSL is not activated on my domain with WWW (I guess it is activated on faval.eu but not on www.faval.eu). However, I have been using WWW for 7 years.
Is it possible to activate it on my domain name with WWW instead?
(Right now I deactivated HTTPS because everyone was getting connection is not private and site is dangerous error alert)

Hello,
Did you get the custom domain after you got the ssl certificate? If so, that could be the problem, as the certificate is registered under the free domain and not the custom domain, thus creating an error.

You should have added the SSL certificate after you added the domain name. Is the domain name through Forumotion?

Hello, no, it has been connected since 2012. Domain name is through 3rd party.

Do you have the domain name connected now? When I visit your forum, I do not see the domain name in the browser tab.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
It is connected. Users have to connect with domain to see it (not with long URL).
My problem is that certificate isn't installed on domain with WWW in front.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
Yes, we kept long and domain name both, to get domain our users have to connect through that.
Current issue needs a dev's help I think. HTTPS is installed, however it is installed for https://example.com and not for https://www.example.com. We use www (only option in our 3rd party CNAME) and because it changes address to www, then my site shows certificate error in Chrome (domain name mismatch). Right now I disabled https (members could be afraid to connect), is there a chance to have https with www?

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
How long did you have the certificate installed for ?
It takes 24 to 48hrs to go over your forum and change everything from HTTP to HTTPS
also if google finds any address that is not safe on your forum it will show it as not safe.
Did you make sure all your images and links on your forum are all in HTTPS before installing the certificate.
I am asking this as i have a WWW. address with no problems at all.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
What I meant is when you have a domain name and manually enter the long link, it should change to the domain name when you load your forum. It is not doing that for me. This could be the reason why the https is not working.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
I think it is related to https://faval.eu => https://www.faval.eu issue.
I did some screenshots.
Error in Safari (only with domain):
Error reason (1 option is green, 2 are red):
Certificate name does not match input.
Long URL, everything is OK (which means pictures, scripts etc are fine).
My domain. As you can see, HTTPS is installed for it, but I get error for not private website (redirect).
---
Did some research in ACP, in one place (spend credits if I remember correctly) is my domain displayed without www (not possible to edit, displayed as text):
// Will add one more picture from my phone.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
I do understand what you are saying but I don't think it is related to this issue. If I google my error, it gives me a lot of results pointing me towards missing www in https configuration.

I think I could delete it and then add it again. However it says:SLGray wrote:Can you edit it?
"An external domain name configured via a CNAME does not have the option to force redirection of the forum's basic Internet address to the domain. The forum will respond on both addresses at once."

Ok. I do not use a third-party domain name so we will wait to see what others have to say.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
Ok the problem is very simple I think, we can not install a certificate on domains we do not control, which is why it is not working I think. I think I read when it first came out that https wont work on custom domains purchased outside of Forumotion, but I could be mistaken.
Edit: Here is the announcement topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t150649-order-a-ssl-certificate-for-a-custom-domain-name-is-now-possible , notice it says towards the bottom that we can not put an ssl certificate for a domain we do not control.

Re: SSL certificate does not cover domain with WWW
yes you can get a certificate hosted outside of FM
as long as your address is set up on your forum i can make a ticket for our team to take a look.
right now it's set up on your main address not your new domain.
