I went to custyomize my navigation widget. anf it took out the links. it put the button pictures in but no links. is there a default navigation widget i could use? or do i need to create a new one if so creating a new one is way beyond my expertise

You may have to create a new one, creating a custom navigation isn't to bad to create, but may take awhile.
OR
Highlight the links and insert a URL on the nav buttons/images.
