Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
Successfully upgraded my win 8.1 to win 10. I'm really impressed on the new features, interface and design especially the start menu, all important stuff can be found right in there. New interface is very clean and fresh. Internet Explorer replaced by Microsoft Edge really works fast like chrome and very pleasant to use.
The only thing I was afraid of, I've had a problem with the black screen, once I play videos, run my avast anti virus, and open browser at the same time, the system has stopped and went to black screen. At first, I didn't recognize what's going on and what's the issue. I seriously tried figuring it out what could be the problem. I believe the issue could possibly be due to outdated display drivers and updating them could make the black screen disappear. Now, I updated the driver and viola, as of now, don't experience black screen issue. Hopefully it could work well now.
Windows 10 is absolutely worth the upgrade!

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
After the update you will receive more small uopdates in order to make it better, it rolles out in phases so be a bit patient and everything will be fine after these updates @Zayn.
The updates off some drivers you have to do yourself manually and others will be provide with the optional updates of windows it is recommanded to run and install the updates automatically.
Met too really pleased with my windows 10

I am rather pleased with Windows 10. ^^ I still prefer 7, but the experiences with 10 have been definitely positive.

I still have a laptop runs w7, because it's RAM wasn't big enough tot support 64 bits version of 10, but it is good to have one to do some experimental stuff on it
I'm sur it will be fine after the updates
Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I removed and reinstalled the update that included the free upgrade notification app. It is not appearing. Does someone know an easy way to get the app to appear again?
P.S. I ran the troubleshooter from Miscrosoft. It is weird that when the update was first installed my computer met the requirements. When I ran the troubleshooter, it said my computer does not met the requirements.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
You removed windows 10 or your previous version
Because after you install windows 10 you have 1 month to go back to your previous version and even in that month you can turn to windows 10 again.
But if you did not install yet the windows 10 you still should have to get the notification
Ik need however know what bits windows you are running and wich version now and how many gig is your RAM
And check if you updated everything but specially update KB3035538 who is responsable for the noticication
check it out in your update historie when not install that update
You did not change any hardware parts of your computer?
Also be sure you have installed all the updates also the ones not nessecaire and look if your drivers are all up to date
check on the website of the maker of the drivers

I was talking about the app that you used to reserve your copy.
It appeared today, so I have started the process.

sometimes it takes long, when there are some upates not yet installed.
I upgraded 3 laptops already mine and 2 friends
Mine it went really by the book with the upgrade
but those of my friends both I forced it with the windows 10 creation tool
and that went also really well

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I am still a little confused. Does it remove/overwrite Windows 8.1? I know that you can revert back to Windows 8.1.

don't panic I did 2 8.1 to 10 without back up ( ) and all went well
just be sur when you have a laptop it's connect to the power
and you not upgrade over wifi but connect your laptop to 1 of the ports of your Modem/router

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I only have a PC which will be upgraded.
So basically you will have two Windows versions on the same computer, but only one will be activate?

Basically you run windows10 and you can't run windows7/8.. but you have 30 days after the upgrade to roll-back to your previous OS
Sadly I rolled-back because my internet key wasn't compatible with the new OS

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I really do not see a need to upgrade since my computer is new. I just got it in April of this year. Also I have had no issues with Windows 8.1. The only thing is I want to know when will Microsoft discontinue support for Windows 8.1.

That one is new to me since a key to you internet is not related to any os
you can connect any device to it with the same key
so must be something in the drivers of the wlan that had to update
I know that after my upgrade it made several updates after to make every thing works fine.
So you have to be patient after the upgrade.

All people I know who made the upgrade from 8.1 to 10 liked it better
But for your question I think it's Vista will be stopped 2017 windows 7 2020 and I thought for windwos 8.1 it was 2022 but to be sure
read the support of windwows.
Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I've had an issue this morning when I opened my laptop, once I was able to log in onto my personal account. I got a pop up saying "Critical Error. Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in."
I've boot it into safe mode and restarted the pc and it was... Bam! it works again.. Any ideas why this happens?

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
there were problems for some users with cortana and menu start button. Why things happen, is not always clear, but it is one of those bugs, and so fixes comes withe several updates. It could be just that although you had no problems you had to boot in order to update the fix
With windows 10 the updates roles out like drops not like before once a month more in the idea how apps update on the smartphone so you will on differant moments receive updates for differant apps or parts of the windows software.
When everything is working fine now for you, you don't have to worrie about it anymore

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I recently installed Windows 10,
I don't know if I'm just missing something, but I don't see any improvements over Windows 7 in it?
Seems like the same thing with a new UI.

You still can wait for more updates, after the upgrade, for me I think it works for me very good and seems also faster.
off course bugs happen in the start if you have questions about it jus ask
I have som trics to help with several bugs that came on in the computer help forums I join.

Windows 10 1511 update:
In case you are not aware, there's a massive update for windows 10 was released 3 days ago I think?
Still checking things out but it seems to be stable for me so far and I've had no issues with it at all for now.
Have anyone upgraded to this new update, and if so how are you finding it?

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I downloaded the Free MS Windows 10 Pro ISO image and burned to a disk. MS Electronically activate the license. Installed it on 3 PC's and its worked flawlessly, very pleased. After July 2016 the MS offer will no longer be free. There are two Win 10 versions. Win10 Pro and Home editions, make sure you install the correct version. Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro. Win7 Home Premium to Win 10 Home.
Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I just noticed something really bad
basically turning to windows 10 will remove your recovery partition of the previous OS. This means that if you install windows10 and then you roll-back, you will never be able to make a fabric-restore anymore of your previous OS
such a bad "bug"

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
If that is a bug, I dont know if Microsoft wants folks to be able to 'roll back' to older os versions.

Re: Free Windows 10 Upgrade
I also made an ISO image of my HD before Windows 10 install.
I think it's possibly Microsoft's way of eliminating pirated copies of the OS. Another reason MS is currently offering Windows 10 OS for Free.
