My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Hi everyone, I am new here and building a forum. I have used the software before but since I last used phpBB there have been changes and improvements.
So I have five categories only and use the admin panel to create the categories and forums. I see it is set up with forums under the categories but the display just shows the forums?
Also do the categories and forums always go across left to right going down or can they be displayed underneath each other in that way? Thanks.

Okay I did that and what I have now is:
MEMBERS ZONE (category)
New Members
Members Birthdays
And that's it - the other categories and forums (CHAT, NEWS, MUSIC, SPORT) are not displayed?
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
The settings at the moment.
And just the Member Zone is displayed.
And just the Member Zone is displayed.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Try to attach each blue category to your main forum talk the one with the black letters
So to open a category u must click the + you see at the top ..top..

I don't understand because the blue ones are the categories and the green ones are the forums.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Hit the orange wheel on the line that says "Talkback", search for "Attached to" and move it up to: |
Then @ "Position this forum after :" , make sure to position it after Members Zone.
Next, SAVE your settings using the green 'Save' button.
Do the same with UK & World news, Music and Sport
Example: http://prntscr.com/alky5s

Thanks, I just don't get it at all, like in the category Talkback I can't make it go after Members Zone, it will only do New Members.
I click the orange wheel for Talkback and it says it is attached to New Members.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
I apologize that I have no idea how to do this at all.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Using the orange wheel @ 'Talkback', click 'Attached to', then attach 'Talkback' to '|' (at the top), not to 'New Members'

Like this?
I will see what changes it does. No that can't be it, it now says:
Error
You can't attach a forum to one of its sub-levels (recursive attachment)

Try playing around with each setting in this menu to see if one of them makes them display right, sometimes with the structures and hierachy, you need to just play around it until you get it to look just right, sometimes, if not often, it is not just set in stone which setting will work for you want.
Try playing around with other setting, like try going from medium to heavy and back in each of the 3 types of layouts available and see if it one gets it to look how you want.
Your issue does sound very much like a structures and hierarchy issue.

It might be that and I did try all of that earlier, in both sections, tried none, medium, heavy etc, so it is really frustrating especially as these people are trying to help and must also be scratching their heads - why can't he do it!
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Look, just attach Talkback, UK & World news, Music and Sport to this http://prntscr.com/allkhs , ok?

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
If I have is set to 'none' on split index I get this.

Please don't be angry, I am autistic and so I know slower than most, in any case I don't see how I could attach all my forums to your screenshot, because that is what it looks like to me you are saying.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
I think Forumedic must be correct:
And so it must be something in my set-up like others are saying, anyway I'm trying all I can.

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
But I've done that already. Never mind, I will start the whole lot again doing it that way.
Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
This time I try making the categories first.
Then add the forums and now it is like this.

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
To create new categories you'll need the green + at the top. Here's an example: http://prntscr.com/almye6 . Then @ "Attached to" , leave things as they are.

I tried 'leaving things as they are' it went all over the place. I think I need somebody willing to come in and help me by arranging it.

Well, I could fix it for you, but I'll leave that part to FM staff if you don't mind. I won't ask for an admin account on anyone's site.
Good luck!

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
I started it all again and sort of got somewhere, this is how the set-up looks.
And three categories have managed to appear except that if you click the NEW MEMBERS it takes you to MEMBERS BIRTHDAYS like it is a sub-board.

It seems you made Members birthday a sub forum by mistake. When you make a new forum in a category, make sure you hit the green plus icon that is next to the CATEGORY you want to add it to, DONT click the one next a forum, or you might end making it a sub forum by mistake.

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
When you connect a category (blue) to a forum (green), it does not appear as a category anymore.
To create a category, you have to click the green X at the very top of the page.

Re: My categories aren't displaying as categories?
Well unfortunately I am just going around in circles. I cannot understand totally what I am to do to get this in order. I have spent six hours trying on and off. I am wondering if a staff member would be able to look in and solve this problem.
