Forumotion news : publications on the forums.

Dear users,

Because we want to give you the best service, we are constantly trying to improve and to get better by developing new opportunities and functionnalities.

We're glad to announce a new fonctionnality on the Forumotion forums : Publications. Thanks to this new option, you can now create unique content in collaboration with your members (kind of a wikipedia), independently from your forum content. Very Happy

What is the publication system ?

Totally independant from the rest of the forum, with a new modern, minimalist and ergonomic design, the publications are an absolute innovation for the Forumotion forums.

This system is compatible with the "Accelerated Mobile Pages" project (AMP), which has been made in order to let the members of a forum share an independant content, made as a teamwork, with the entire world.

This exclusive system presents numerous advantages, such as an instantaneous loading of the publications and an optimal aspect on all the mobile devices. This will work on every kind of content (articles, news, tests, recipees, tutorials, essays... etc.) Cool

Independent, the publications system permits you to write as a teamwork, to communicate some knowledge or information and to create a new place to share with your members. Indeed, this publication section is different from a forum because it's not about answering to each other: the purpose isn't to make a topic with a messages succession. There, you'll be able to write together, to share, to make only one and same content and to enhance it with all your members's knowledge.

Plus, you can define the publications as a common "Wiki" with your community, where you have the possibility to create a free content in a collaborative work, and then to share it with the rest of the world, showing for example what you like, or even your forum.

How to activate the publication system ?

To activate the publications on your forum, you have to go to your administration panel, the publications settings are in the "Modules". You'll find there the possibility to activate it, to choose the moderators of the publications and other permissions.

Once you activated it, a new button, "Publications", appears in the main menu of your forum. It gives you access to this new fonctionnality.

Hello,

You can now access to the publication functionnality on the Forumotion forums. To make your experience better, we added some optimizations in order to increase the performances of this new functionnality.

Customize the name and the target link of your publications

As an admin, you can now customize the page name of the publications and the target link to the publications in the navigation menu.

Addition of the publication target link on the mobile version

It’s now possible to access to the publications by the navigation menu on your mobile version. Wink

Optimization and corrections

Some corrections and optimizations have been operated on the source code of the publications pages. Even if you can’t see it, it significiently improves the functionnality and optimizes the SEO.

Is it possible we are unable to change the main picture (at the top) of a publication ? Tried several times.

The permissions control must improve, it is not possible to remove the permissions of visualization to the guests, does not leave the section permissions and in certain forums this can be susceptible that any outsider see the publications and copy them.

The permissions of the button of the bar should be more elastic like those that can be edited their permissions:

I think that section should be more configurable by the Admin and not with closed permissions.

And add the FB share option in a natural way, not modifying the templates

So, in summary we have a kind "Wikipedia" in our forums that we can create content and edit it without be the author of the article/post ?

I like the feature very much
My only concern is that anyone can edit the articles
In a forum with 2000 members like mine how can i be sure that a member will not mess up the articles (like tutorials articles)

yes it is a danger that anyone can edit the publication, the permissions should be
More customizable and that can only add something to the publication but can not edit the publications of others, only improve them by adding content as in a topic of a forum

yes i think this needs to be looked at more to
i found when testing this on my new forum i logged out and made a new account and could edit a admin's post by a member with no admin powers
but it was listed for me to mod to say yes or no to but i would like to see this set so only the maker of the post is the one that can edit it.

I too would like more control over permissions. I don't want guests, or robots to see any publications.

We take a look at all the suggestions you give us, and we'll try our best to satisfy your demands.

About the permissions, even if your members can edit the publications, they can't post it without a validation from an administrator or a moderator. All the members can edit and send a publication to be validated, but can't modify and publish it directly. That's the best way to give the opportunity to everybody to modify the publications and still have a good security on it. However, we understand your point of you and we keep it in mind Wink

I just started testing this in one of my forums, I agree with Kelper more control over access to it, would come in handy.

You can get the CSS selectors for what you want to change and add them to your stylesheet.
