Show forums before registration

What do you guys think of forum when administrator disables ability to see how many topics they have, what can you find on forum, how active is the forum?
I find it very annoying and rude. They force you to register, to trick you and maybe you don't like it there, but they got members count. How they expect people to register if I don't know what they have to offer? Like I pay for a candy without knowing if I will like it or not. Mistery candy.

it depends on the forum
i have a forum that offers graphic requests and forum codes
when it was opened the members duplicated the codes or steal the graphics without respecting my license
so I decided to close the categories so as a guest you can see only the category titles but not inside the threads

imagine doing all the work and someone else comes and steal everything without even respect the copyright rules

You can limit seeing work for quests. Each forum can have displaying images or messages in general. But you don't have to limit complete forum. Like, why would I register? What do you offer?

this is already done for some areas

if a forum is clear about the content by reading the title or by seeing the homepage then you know what the forum is all about

not all forums are open for popularity some forums are between friends or colleagues which is why I say that depends on the forum , this has nothing to do with rudeness ..is my personal opinion

I have parts of my forum that is hid and you have to be a member to see the posts and comments.
you must be a member to see this and it's not just for members count the codes have a copy right on them so unless your a member of the forum you have no right to them codes.

It's all about choice on each founder or member i guess.

I'm in agreement with most here. there are always reasons why the forum it self may be completely locked behind registration or just certain sections. My forum is no different. I have public sections that non-registered guests can see, see but not read or not see at all.

This was done for several reasons, no big secrets, other than the codes i make are exclusively mine, so that section is locked to members only. the sections that guests cant see at all are for me a way to entice others to register, sorta like what ya see, wanna see more type of thing.

others may not want it all seen or its not "public" but more invite only. not every place has an "open door" policy

Of course it is a choice. Sometimes i just find it weird when there is nothing to take and yet hide complete forum
