Give mods the right to edit members signatures ??
should mods have the right to edit members signature's
First topic message reminder :
Hi all just a little some thing i have looked over and found would be good to have on the site.
Right now the only way to edit a members signature is the member them self or a admin of the site with ACP rights.
i am asking you all to support me on having a place on the mods tools where the Mods can edit the signature's
this will help the staff when some one puts porn or some other thing in the signature that should not be there
This is a screen shot of a MCP that is on MyBB forum
as you can see you can stop the member from using the sig or just edit it
Screen shot Lost SORRY
right now the admins are the only ones that can do this ..
come on guys lets get this added to the site.

I voted no, only because I think it would potentially cause some issues.

But why don't adding a button (like for Profile's fields) to choose if you can moderate it (:

Voted yes. If a member write a stupid signature, spamming in? So, this may be useful.

Yes, I think they should. Moderators are there to make sure there's no rule breaking, and if someone breaking the rules in a signature, mods should be able to control that.

The best is to create a moderator panel.

Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
If you want your moderators to edit,or remove signatures just make them admins by adding them to the hidden admin group. Then they will have full moderation rights when the admin is offline.APE wrote:Hi all just a little some thing i have looked over and found would be good to have on the site.

Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
The thing is you don't want Mods in your Admin page that is just for admin's you trust your mods to do a mods job not to do an admins job.
Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
Well the idea of having moderators is so they can watch and moderate your forum while the admin is offline.APE wrote:The thing is you don't want Mods in your Admin page that is just for admin's you trust your mods to do a mods job not to do an admins job.
On the big forums V Bulletin and all that moderators have more or less the same rights as admins.
Though that could be because the forum admin may have also made them administrators as well.
You should not give moderator or admin positions to users you cannot trust anyway. But if you know the person you are making moderator or admin, there's no problem.
If however an admin feels they cannot trust their members as moderators,or admins, then they should not be giving them moderator or admin rights.
As even though it's true that on FM forums moderators have limited moderation powers, they can still delete or edit posts as well as ban members.
So again you should not make anyone you cannot trust a moderator either.

Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
I did not say i don't trust my members to help us out i just think handing Admin rights out not the right way to go that is why we have 2 sort of rights one for the mods and one for admins,
The mods do all the forum work and the admin's do the ACP work
It would just help the admin's out if we could have a modding page that has the right to Edit the siggys when needed to without going in to the ACP settings,
Anyway you have the right to speak your views and it's noted
Thank you,
Ape

Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
Some people may have rules saying that a signature can only be a certain size or a signature can't have anything offensive in it. If a member doesn't follow such rules then I think the mod's should be able to help the admin and change the signature (especially if the member is asked to change it and they don't change it). But ultimately it's up to the admin of the forum to decide if they want mod's to be able to change it. But I would allow my mod's to change member's signature if they don't change it when asked.

Re: should mods have the right to edit members signature's
Well the good thing about Forumotion forums is that you can have as many admins as you want. Unlike some other forum services where you can have only the founder as head admin and the co-admins do not have full admin rights. But on Forumotion forums they do.
Moderators have only basic moderation powers, for example they can ban but not unban.
Also if a member has set his profile to not allow PMs or emails from members, moderators cannot send them warnings by PMs or email if that members has broken the rules.Only admins can and moderators cannot remove inappropriate avatars or signatures or block that member from displaying avatars or sigs unless they are also admins.
So making the moderators admins also is the easy way round this. Then moderators can do all of those things and can moderate both the forum and members who break the rules.
I know of some forums where moderators cannot even close a thread and cannot ban or anything but I see no point to this.
As what is the point of having moderators if they cannot do their job?
Other forums do give moderators more powers and they also have moderator for maybe one or two forums or Global moderator that has more powers.
So yes for those admins who want their moderators to have moderation powers but not as much as admins, yes this is a good idea.
Though I myself would just make the moderators admins. Although on my forum they displayed to the other members as moderators in Usergroups. As the real administrators group(the one with the crown) was hidden and only the second admin group and other moderators groups were displayed.

I think we should have this because if a forum only had two admins then it could be sometime before the link is remove.
However I also believe there should be an option to disable this option as well.
