the other day i found out that forumation have removed google ads on the english boards, but i have them on my forum. is this a little problem or have you added them again so we have to pay for them to be removed

when the english board shouldn't have them just had to pay to remove them again.

yes ive just seen these ads for the first time on my forum for people who arent logged in. Must admit im not happy at all about these ads, this was what set forumotion above the rest of the free forum hosts.

Its not always greed. I know people that use google ads to earn money to buy their domain names etc and don't spend a penny on themself.

yes i agree with you on that, but thats your own choice, and you have control of where you put them. these ads that have just appeared are splashed along the top of every page for guests reading the forum, ruining the look of the forum. Many people hate these ads that are forced on them, me included

this is going off-topic abit i'm shock typlo as not posted yet, i'm not bother about google ads because i have my own, But i was told that the english board don't have anymore so why do i have and paying for them to be removed when i should not have to.

i dont see them on my one forum but there on another?
but the only place i do see them are on the log in page. and actually there not bad compared to some forums ware they pop up and you have to click close on them to get rid of them. then when you click close an add comes up.

so as long as forumotion don't have those kinds, i dont see what the big problem is.

Last I heard, the techies had decided to remove them from all non-french forums. Reason being that the income was a hell of a lot bigger on the french side (over 6 times the size of the english side) and that it'd help promote a non-ads english side

my forum is a english forum and i had to pay twice to remove them so i can add my own. i'm getting rip off if the english forum dont have google ads anymore

honestly who ever goes to them things anyway? i'm sure a small percentage of people do but i have never once clicked on one.

anybody who knows and have used google ads long term will tell you that they dont work as a money making scheme anyway,the only true winner is google as it ups and ups your keywords fee's, so why bother cluttering the place up anyway with them. probably the real money making scheme here is to make them as prominent as they can be so we will pay to get the vile things off

if you have pages that guests can read your forum pages, you will find if you cruise your site not logged in (like a guest does) they are on every page you look at

well that's strange there not on my new forum? but it's not in a forum directory yet either.. so dont know. as far as my other forums they only come up on the lo gin page when your not logged in.. dunno????

I have had my forum for 7 months, and not an add in sight, but today, BANG!!! scruffy looking totally un colour coordinated banner for google and EBay.
I spend 4 months working on graphics for the forum, 7 months working on members, and now in a flash it looks crap at the top of my forum! WHY!!!!

Im seriously thinking of going to Vbulleting, I know its expensive, but it will stop all this messing about, you told us 2-3 weeks ago you were going to reward us for that mess up with the servers, and I was wondering, is the adds that reward!!!!, you make money while we suffer.

well if you did decide to go somewhere else i would suggest just the regular phppb boards. you can install modules and get all the options forumotion offers and more for free. it's just more work for all the installation..

as far as these adds they must have did something b/c my one forum never had them for almost two years.. now there there. but on my newer forums there not?

so dunno.. it is getting rather annoying. but then again is still free.
oh and vbulletin is OK just a Lil more complicated when it comes to there modulus.

oh plus vbulletin has the pop up adds now. so when you go to close them it opens another page. and the get wright through your pop up blocker also.. my friends have forums there..

The ads are starting to pop up on most forums..i have 2, early this morning i woke up to find the ads on one of them and not on the other....low and behold a few hours later bingo they are on my other forum as well..so i just spent 600 credits removing them from my main site.....i thought these forums were meant to be add free. Not only that, i just bought my own domain and now left with no credits....it's starting to get a bit expensive and i feel sorry for all those forums that use them for finding missing children or church groups etc...a lot of those can't afford the add removal.

That's weird. My forum is just fine. Did you check on the admin panel, if you have disabled google advertisements, in forum configuration (General)- Ads are disabled..., Allow banner ads...?

There's nothing there to say disable google ads...and if i check the box allow banner ads...then i get one ugly banner add on the home page.

what i find strange, is that my friend as just made a forum two days ago, no ads at all anywhere, does seem like the more established forums are being targeted, maybe because we have more traffic than the newer forums or are higher in the forumotion directories so more exposure for the ads.

These ads are a bad move for forumotion, any idiot can see that. The amount of rubbish we have to put up with over the months with updates screwing things up and whotnot, the ad free forum is one of the main points people keep slogging on here, putting up with it.
what concerns me the most is that google picks up keyword for thier ads and i have a sexual health cat on my front page,what ads am i going to get on my life chat and SPIRITUAL forum if google picks that up..

so much for a reward for our loyalty, slippery slope comes to mind

i wont be paying 12 pounds (24 dollars) to get rid of the ads on a forum which is still very buggy and unstable anyway. if i have to have ads on my forum then i will just up sticks and my members to a more stable enviroment

As with others here I have suddenly got google ads on my index page. Have tried to remove them to no avail and I don't want them there. Please if someone can tell me how to get rid of them. I searched this forum but found no answers. I believe this has happened before. Some sort of technical glitch?

EDIT: I should add here that they are not usually there. Very annoying.
