Note: This can be used in case of redirection on PC as on mobile or tablet. The only difference is that you can not do the indicated operations on mobile devices. So you must simulate a mobile device on Chrome via Toogle Device ToolBar and start from step 4.

Well, this isn't going to be easy.

Here is the link to our forum.
http://www.brothersofbriar.com/

All I can add is, that many users are complaining about various ads, mis-directs, banners, etc. Obviously malware. We pay to have no ads when logged in.

I cannot see any of the difficulties that the users are having. I usually surf in Linux, using Firefox, Adblock +, and Ghostery. Most of the users are having trouble using tablets and phones running Android. But not all. Some are using desktops.

I will ask them to copy links and screenshots. But feel it is a waste of time for Forumotion to chase down each and every link. It is obvious that something is open. Unprotected. Too many users are suffering the same issues, and for months now by the looks of these threads.

Post by Ange Tuteur July 5th 2016, 2:50 pm

Hey,

I've been designing for mobile and making sure YOUR ads display currently, HOWEVER I'm being redirected by ads when I spoof my useragent as a mobile device. Your ad services are using a method like this to redirect your mobile users :
Code:
        document.getElementById('hostbannersnavi').innerHTML =  '<a href="http://b252c7wpp9qvn-6jw0gbj6ttku.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=TID" target="_blank"><img src="http://getleanprogram.com/images/300x250-2.png" border=0"></a>';

if(navigator.userAgent.match(/(Android|iPhone|iPad)/i)) {
setTimeout(function(){
 window.top.location.href = "http://go.clickdomnew.com/afu.php?zoneid=683217&var=ac2"

}, 1000)

}

FYI the script contains the ad URL and image.

Which I found from this source on my page :
http://hostbannersnavi.com/creativelog101-1007/index.php?id=431&el=hostbannersnavi&r=0.6478891620714398

If you need anymore information feel free to download the saved page :
http://www.mediafire.com/download/5rjoitq1clwtc7e/malicious-forumactif.zip

I'm going to take a break, because it's extremely frustrating trying to work on mobile while being redirected every time I navigate to another page. grrr!!!!!

Hello,

We're sorry regarding this issue and we're working on it. Please, can you be clearer regarding the details: it concerns redirections on mobile version, is it the case? Or on desktop version too? What is your location?

Ange Tuteur wrote:Your ad services are using a method like this to redirect your mobile users :

Regarding the loading issues, it's solved now (you can see my feedback here: https://help.forumotion.com/t147663p30-only-topic-ubercmp-issues#1018798).

Solved Re: [ONLY TOPIC] Ads redirection (Mobile & PC)

Post by Ange Tuteur July 6th 2016, 10:53 am

It occurs on desktop, but ONLY if I switch my browser useragent to a mobile device. ( e.g. android, ipad, iphone.. ) These adverts are targeting users based on their useragents, so it can happen on any platform as long as you're using the useragent they're targeting. See the script I posted above and you'll see it targets three platforms ; Android, iPhone, iPad.

If you don't know, you can get this to happen on Chrome through the following steps :
Press CTRL+SHIFT+C to open the console, then click "toggle device toolbar". After this click the dots in the corner and choose "add device type" then choose "mobile" or "desktop" depending on what you want to emulate. Choose mobile if you want to be redirected.

As per your request, this is the innerHTML content from the advert that tried to redirect me :
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">//<![CDATA[
    function AT_adFillSlot(){document.write('<scr' + 'ipt data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"https://www.geniusdisplay.com/a/display.php?r=968501\"></scr' + 'ipt>');}//]]>

Solved Masses of ad redirects

Post by Nazamroth July 6th 2016, 7:18 pm

Technical Details

Forum version : #phpBB2
Position : Founder
Concerned browser(s) : Other
Who the problem concerns : All members
When the problem appeared : At around mid June(2016)
Forum link : http://warhammerrejects.forumc.net/

Description of problem

Greetings.

We are having some serious ad redirect issues on our forum lately. It has gotten to the point of being unbearable, really. Of course, it is all shady sites with .xyz addresses and promising to fix nonexistent hardware issues by installing stuff. Some even redirect you to your messages and automatically types in a line, ready to send. Others just redirect you to the app store. using the return to last page bu7tton does not work either. you have to use a direct link to the site to be able to get back.
It happens quite reliably by now. Every time you load a page it might happen.
Note: it only seems to happen on mobiles, but on the full site version.

Here are some of the URLs we get redirected to(at least their beginnings anyway. they are really long):
androidmsgv0.xyz
surewin.xyz
lp.bemydate.mobi
apps4you.xyz
secure.mobspin4u.com

There are probably others too that i did not encounter in the 10 minutes i spent collecting these(but these often repeated).

Some help would be appreciated as it is really getting out of hand now.
Thank you in advance

Yes, after a quick scan, it seems to be quite similar. None of those addresses are familiar though.
And as i said, they only happen on phones(possibly tablets. havent tested).

Sorry for making a duplicate thread if there is already a similar one.

Hello,

Our ad partner made some changes yesterday to stop these forced and intempestive redirections. I can't reproduce the issue on my side. Can you verify on your forums please?

Hi Nemo,

Regarding your forum, it's a normal situation because your forum has 0 point of activity. In this case, it's an inactive forum and there is a pop under with these conditions: one pop under for all Forumotion's forums with 0 point / IP / day.

So if you have only one pop under each day on your inactive forum, it's normal. If you don't want this pop under, just try to have 1 point of activity and not 0 (just post a message sometimes).

But if you have more than one pop under each day on your inactive forum, please tell us and we will investigate the issue further.

Have a nice weekend everybody [ONLY TOPIC] Ads redirection (Mobile & PC) - Page 3 1f609

Today being early 14th of July (Happy France Day!)

I haven't encountered this myself but several other members confirmed it.
Problem is, when people saw the malicious ads, they didn't stick around to take screenshots and copy links, in fear of getting a virus. They just closed it down as quickly as they could. We have several reports made but neither prompted a screenshot and/or ad link. I will add the following (scant) info to this hoping it at least leads you down the right path.

- Url of your forum http://www.gunetwork.org/
- Ads displayed on PC, on tablet, on mobile (android, apple,...): all devices
- Image location (copy and then past here): similar to this:
http://www.virus-removal-help.com/wp-content/uploads/edge-fake-warning.jpg
- The link location (copy and then past here): Don't have one yet, have requested.
- Link on the ads and copy-past the final link: Don't have one yet, have requested.
Got one! (but there are likely more)

When people click on my name, it sends them to an advertisement - sometimes an inapropriate one. I don't think I have a virus and I don't go on bad websites on my computer. What is the issue?

Hello @Archard,

The problem comes from one of your modified templates or something you added. I can't localised precisely where. But it is this link :

Code:
 http://a01.adoptima.com/GP3be52182699573851

And here the code :
Code:
var mediaTag = mediaTag || {};

                  mediaTag = {
                     render : function(src, width, height, style) {
                        // Anti-cache
                        src += '&nc=' + new Date().getTime();
                        // On écrit l'iframe dans le document
                        document.write('<iframe src="' + src + '" ' +
                                      'width="' + width + '" ' +
                                      'height="' + height + '" ' +
                                      'frameborder="0" ' +
                                      'hspace="0" ' +
                                      'vspace="0" ' +
                                      'scrolling="no" ' +
                                      'marginheight="0" ' +
                                      'marginwidth="0" ' +
                                      ((style!='') ? ' style="' + style + '"' : '') +
                                      '></iframe>');
                     }
                  }

                  // ------------------------------------------------------------
                  // Effectue l'affichage de la bannière
                  // ------------------------------------------------------------

                  mediaTag.render('http://a01.adoptima.com/GP3be52182699573851/?out=html&ads=7b31e033b43f05d4b&emplt=3b36e003b43f75d56', 300, 250, 'border: 0px

Url the Ad sends me to:
Code:
http://nationaccent.com/108/84d6e316e30327e589f_40983fca3120e/?ptfn=888-604-0047&ftfn=888-604-0047
Picture of ad
[ONLY TOPIC] Ads redirection (Mobile & PC) - Page 3 Ad_rep10

Unfortunately I can't get url of the ad that's sending me there as the page kept reloading.. I'm using google chrome which stops it, however if I open a incognito web page or attempt to access my forum through something like the PS4 browser I will run into it. There's also another ad that I've been running into. This has been happening for the past 4 to 5 days and most of my other members who don't have some kind of ad block are running into it and it's preventing, pages loading, posting and in one case crashing their computer.

I'll try to find the other one.

Another one
Code:
http://aidu4virus.com/pcerror/index.html

[ONLY TOPIC] Ads redirection (Mobile & PC) - Page 3 Ad_rep11

Ads wile make noises or use computer generated voices after the initial box is closed, and once the warning popup is disabled using Chrome's built in function the site will constantly reload itself.

I am getting multiple complaints from users today. Unfortunately, none of the info you guys want. They tell me that they are being redirected, often to a page that says they are infected with a virus and will have to pay to get free. They shut down and reboot. Their anti-virus and malware checkers tell them they are clean. It only happens on our forum. http://www.brothersofbriar.com/ The two most recent complaints, one user is on a Mac and the other a desktop running Windows 10. But I have no other info. I have asked for it.

I was hoping the issue with the ad partner had fixed it. What I think may be happening is that the users having the difficulties are simply not using the forum. Only checking in every few days to see if it is fixed. For some reason running Adblock and Ghostery in Firefox is not something they want to do.

And another user. Running Win 7 and 8.1. Having to shut down with the taskmanager. He got on with the Android mobile to let me know. Another virus warning thing.

Solved Re: [ONLY TOPIC] Ads redirection (Mobile & PC)

Post by BucolicBuffalo July 16th 2016, 12:39 am

Curious. I never use my iPhone to surf the forum. So I tried and I get a text representation of the forum. There is a social media bar at the bottom with several common buttons. A directed ad appears at the top. One was a Honda CRV and this one is for a Ford truck. Just the most basic of info. I went to a thread and I get a usable view with our avatars. Maybe this is some sort of mobile version. I never use the iPhone, so I do not know it is should appear this way. It did not use to. It was more like what I see on a desktop.

In trying to get to a reply function I seem to have trigged one of these problems. It opened a new tab, all black. Except it has an AddThis button. The X button does not work. Nor can I go back to the page I was on. In the address bar it has s7.addthis.com

Does that help y'all any?

We are having the same problem with cell phones and mac computers.
With the cell phone my guys have to shut down the browsers it puts them in a loop for some virus on there phone and try to make you click the link to get out but it just sends you to some site. I don't know what site. Our site is http://4wheelchat.forumotion.com

False alarm, at least the first one is back.

EDIT:
Seems to only pop up when I go incognito the first time, but I know a few people have said it happens either when their posting or when they submit their post.

@Archad,

Somewhere in your modified templates there is this, and you need to get rid of this to get rid of the redirection. I suggest you to test your modified template one by one to see which one is responsible for this problem.

It totally blocks me from doing anything to inspect the element, I'm using Safari at the time.

Thank you for your assistance. The ads seems to have stopped by now.

I apologise for not posting any screenshots, but i have been physically unable to comply, and my...dear friends proved less than cooperative in helping to resolve this issue once they had to put actual work into it, however little it was...
The range and...transparency of excuses, truly was amusing.
