Grammar Errors - Page 6 Empty Grammar Errors

Post by MrMario May 29th 2011, 7:47 pm

First topic message reminder :

Hello,

Do you see a grammar error or miss spelling? Post the original piece along with the correct version.

To ensure that its being looked at and to help locate this issue, please provide a screenshot and the location.

Example:

Admin Panel >> General >> Configuration

As of right now, this topic will only support English languages. Once we have more translators, the language will be added to the list. Not all translations will be updated right away as it will be reviewed before going public to ensure the updated version is correct.

Thanks for your help!

Cliff Jones wrote: Problem with Admin security setting
by Cliff Jones Yesterday at 2:40 pm

.Please bear with me on my Diatribe

I used my password and tried to login and it rejected the used password, I tried a number of passwords, but the security settings are such and are not using correct English syntax , so they are causing me some confusion ( and I'm sure others too!) as to the correct setting. I had to use another Administrator to just get me in to modify what I thought were correct settings. So I again could get into my forum.
-------------------------------
In the security settings :

The main problem is the word Disallow, then giving the choice of yes or no.
If I click on yes I now know that the word disallow is a negative word,

So if I say yes then I am committing a negative action to not allow which is an incorrect negative action.

If I say no then I am committing a positive action on a negative question which is also confusing.
---this is called a double negative-- which is incorrect and confusing, I only found out the results when I tried to obtain a new password to get into my forum.

Rather to be correct syntax it should say instead
Allow this to take place then the choice of yes or no ------------------------------
Here's a good example:

Confirm password to administration access : Yes No. (this good, its a positive question)

Disallow "Send by e-mail a new password" to administrators and moderators : Yes No (this is bad its a negative question)

This should be stated as
" Automatically send a requested new password to replace a lost password by Email : Yes No"
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This item disallow the use of 'I forgot my password' for administrators and moderators.
It is advised to activate it (if you are sure to not forget your password...). Do you activate it by a yes or a NO? This to, is confusing!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
You can always modify your password in 'Profile'..Disallow moderators to ban members : : Yes No. Again Do you activate it by a yes or a NO? This to, is confusing!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Allow moderators to see the hidden users : Yes No (this good, its a positive question)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Note: You have two different but apposing ways to ask a question, its not uniform and therefore not correct English and confusing.
I hope I have explained my experience well enough, to understand and also as a suggestion, as a change to consider.
Thank You

Hello,

What you're asking isn't a simple translation but you want a change of the complete option.
I keep your suggestion in mind and I'll propose it to the technicians as soon as it will be possible.

Thank you very much

RadioHead wrote:PM's > User doesn't exist error:

This or these user(s) don't exist.

Thanks for the report !
It will be modified soon Wink

Also, I remind that we're only able to do the English translation in this section.

Thank you !

Might aswell PM a moderator for that CJ. This thread is for things where a pro admin will have to modify it, basically translation errors.

This is a spelling error or grammar issue, in the FAQ page of Invision, in the title of one of the topics it says "Forum Issus" and it should read "Forum Issues". This is a predominantly English forum so we would like it to read "Forum Issues".

Whenever editing a template, and if you get an error, you get this message below:

http://awesomescreenshot.com/0d2v22uae

I believe it should be: "The modified template contains error which has not been saved." I may be wrong since I don't write nor speak English fluently.

No the message is correct.

It "contains an error" would be the correct way of writing it if it was just one error, but if you have more than one error with the plural word "Contains" the correct word after that for error would be plural "errors", so the whole thing reads "The modified template contains errors".

It could be the program doesn't have a display for just one error, so it always says "contains errors", but that is correct. Smile

Well,

then, the problem would just be "contains an error" and also, "been."*

Yeah the misspelled word "Benn" is incorrect, it should obviously be "been", in that line, but no ones going to see it but the admins of the forums.

There are two things I'd like to report about the notifications. Smile

When a member connects, it says 'Username has just connect to the forum', which, I think, should be changed to 'Username has connected' ('just'/'to the forum' is slightly redundant but it's mainly about the 'connect' thing).
Also, I noticed that 'All my Messages' actually gets you to all your posts...

How about this menu?
'View profile'
'Edit profile'

'My topics'
'My posts'
'Watched topics'

('Administration panel')
'Log out'

Just some ideas! king

EDIT: There's another typo at the 'Log in' page. It says 'Log on automatically' (at the checkbox), which should be 'Log in automatically'. 'Keep me logged in' would look even better! Very Happy

The reason I say to add in the word 'suspend' is simply because the current wording sounds like you are deleting the template which you are not doing
